This property is amazing and staying in a historic castle will not be forgotten anytime soon. The view from the ramparts was especially good. We only wish there would have been more time to completely explore Alarcón. Parking is nearby and free. The breakfast was good and they had gluten free options for my wife.

This was a very special place to stay! A restored castle off the beaten path in the plains of La Mancha. The property reminded me of the US National Park properties operated by Xanterra. The room was modern yet rustic. The restaurant (in the castle’s great hall) offered a good selection of food and beverages (try the cheese ice cream!!) at a very reasonable price for dinner and breakfast. We laughed the entire time that this was like staying in a sanitized post-COVID-19 version of the Monty Python/Robin Hood/Braveheart castles. It was a fun, incomparable treat to get to stay here!

Truly a destination in itself
Of the many Paradors in which my wife and I have stayed, the Parador de Alarcon is truly one of the most impressive. Dating back to the 8th century as a Moorish castle fortress guarding an important mountain pass into the Moorish heartland, its location and design is spectacular, as is its renovation as a hotel providing modern comforts without detracting in any way from its historical design. My wife, adult daughter and I found its staff friendly and welcoming and enjoyed a truly gourmet dinner of ample portions of a standard one would be hard-pressed to find in most large cities. Although we were each completely satiated after our first two courses, we decided to have dessert as it was included in our half-board. I opted for homemade cheese ice cream with honey which was one of the best desserts I have ever had. With only some fourteen rooms, the hotel restaurant doesn’t offer a breakfast buffet but prepares a delicious selection of fresh foood to order. All-in-all a memorable experience even for those used to staying in European castle and historical hotels.

Fantastic location and friendly staff with great food and drinks to boot. The whole Parador chain is impressive as we got to visit the Parador in Nerja as well as Granada. The staff at Alarcon were worm and friendly, however I would like to mention Maria Angeles from the Granada Parador, she was wonderful. Maria went out of her way to help with reservations to a wonderful flamenco show and treated us like family, she was gracious and is a testament to the Parador team.

Disappointed
Booked the visit for my wife’s birthday. Disappointed with the room as I had booked a superior room. When I asked if it was a superior room the receptionist told me it was as I got slippers, a bottle of water, coffee making facilities. There was no view from the window. All in all very poor value. On the positive side it is in a stunning location and is a lovely building.

Location was beautiful! Restaurant and dining staff were excellent! The only way to see the inside of the churches is to take the tour. The tour is only in Spanish, but you should pay anyways, otherwise you won’t see inside... The lady did speak English and I mentioned that they should offer the tour in both languages...

Spend a romantic night in a fairy tale castle!!
absolutely amazing castle that was originally build as an Arab fortress during the 8th century. The window in our room which is located in the tower was the former entrance to the Castle. (Room #103, Alfonso VIII Room) And we had a view where we could watch the rising sun. Receptionist Almudena went out of her way to answer our every question and give us driving hints and directions. Town is incredible small but lots to do nearby. Loved it.

So pleased we booked
Just an overnight stay on our way to Toledo. A beautiful parador in an atmospheric old castle. We stayed in room 107 which had a lovely cross breeze as it is located on a corner. Only 14 rooms in total. Very good dinner and breakfast. Easy parking in a public car park in front of hotel.

Nice Hotel in an Old Castle
A friend and I stopped off for one night on the way to a conference in Murcia. The hotel is a restored Moorish castle and a lot of the original architecture has been preserved, but the plumbing and appliances are all modern and up-to-date. The hotel is well located for exploring Alarcón, but I'd advise against staying here on a Monday as everything in town except bars and restaurants is closed. The only issue we had with the room is that the bath/shower is open to the room, so a bit awkward if you're not a couple.

This Parador is located in an old castle keep. The reception is up seven or eight steep steps from a courtyard. No one at reception offered to help us with our bags.(We were offered help when leaving) The room was comfortable, although one light fitting was detached from the ceiling and the taps in the bathroom could not be turned with wet hands. The food was excellent. The only outside area is the courtyard,, which is small and surrounded by high walls. In other words, no garden or other outside relaxing area. This hotel does not justify the extra cost of staying here.

A great castle get away.
Having traveled in Spain for many nights for the last 22 years, this is the best place in Spain for a special getaway for a couple. A wonderful restaurant also. Highly recommended if you want a special night (or 2 or 3) to arrange your trip around this hotel. The only thing is that there are not many activities in the area.

The building is beautiful and fascinating. The staff appeared to be largely unhappy to be there. The taps in the bathroom may look attractive but are impossible to use with wet hands. The lift was occupied in the morning by a lady taking clean bedding, not a good idea with one lift and guests wanting to leave with their luggage. The food could be significantly better and perhaps some thought should be given to the largely international customers.

Amazing location of a converted castle. Stunning views and walks in the surrounding countryside. The place has been immaculately restored, as has the entire village. Really peaceful and friendly. The only slight down is that the food is ok, not great. If you stay more than one night, might try one of the small bars in the village?

Wonderfully quiet & serene
The hotel itself is the former castle. It was well maintained & very comfortable. There was a restaurant that served breakfast, lunch & dinner. However, the dinner service was located in the breakfast room & not in the dinning room. We were there 2 nts & both nights dinner served in breakfast room. They did however serve lunch in the dinning room.??? Not sure of reasonings, unless the hotel was not at full capacity. They also had a well stocked bar. The town is small & not much to do. Some hiking trails, so bring accordingly, trails take twice as long as posted. They have a tourist info center, pharmacy, cheese shop that has a few other items, a small antique/gift shop. There are approx 5-6 more restaurants/ bar (eating) establishments. Can't tell you much about the hotel facilities, except we didn't find many. They did have each of the rooms named & a note inside that gave some history of its naming. If you are traveling here & following a gps device, once you arrive at the main entrance arches, don't listen to her. Drive all the way to the end of the town then turn right, you will then pass the tourist office. When you reach the square continue straight. You will find a car park at the end of the street that is where you park & unload. My suggestion is to check in first then bring all of your luggage.

The restaurant at the hotel was great. The surrounding area is excellent; nice walking paths and amazing vistas. My only mistake was booking a room and not realizing I did not get the option for a non-smoking room. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, especially the bedding and pillows. It was so bad that I slept on the bathroom floor, because the odor had not saturated that area of the room. The hotel has complaint forms, of which I filled one out. After handing it to the front desk staff, I turned around, and left, but before exiting I heard a quick rip, and new the form was in the trash, probably unread.

A wonderful experience
Situated in an old castle, this is a small parador (only 14 rooms) with lots of character. All the rooms are individually named and we were given information on the history of both the castle and the naming of our room. Standard and comfort was of the highest level. Dinner was accompanied by a small booklet explaining each course and giving the receipe. Breakfast was cooked to order and like dinner was excellent. Views from our room and from the castle turret were stunning. Alarcon is a small town but there are a few bars and the one opposite the Parador is good value for both food and drink.

AMAZING!
Perfect in every way. Excellent service. Gorgeous room. Elegant surroundings. The only negative I would give is that this village is far off the beaten track and there isn't too much to the village. If you are traveling around Spain and want to explore the towns, other Paradores are in places with more to see. We arrived late in the afternoon and left the next mroning, so it was fine, because the castle is tremendous.

En underbar plats helt otrolig placering av hotellet i den gamla borgen. Men som vanligt stenhårda sängar men det har alla hotell i Spanien. AC fungerade inte vilket mottogs med en gäspning på morgonen av personalen vilket så klart inte vad var vi betalade för. Men placeringaen av hotellet väger upp nackdelarna.
