Good midpoint locationPosted Jun 17, 2016
We booked this b&b for our anniversary weekend. We chose Newstead as it had parking and we liked the unique period theme. It turns out we were better positioned than we could expect, as Bowness unexpectedly has more going on than Windermere itself and we were equidistant between the two centres for local activities and evenings out. The b+b itself is clean and carefully decorated in period features. Our room was clean and a good size and the bed comfy. It was a little unusual for the sink to be outside the ensuite, but its an old building and modernisation means that was the only way it would fit an ensuite was to fit the sink in the room.....no big deal. Could have done with some extra/thicker pillows as feather pillows flatten quite easily. Hosts were friendly and informative. I know a couple of reviews I read have commented on the male owner being a bit unusual. Yes his character /approach might be slightly odd to some people, but he was always nice with us and never intrusive and gave us some good tips for food and excursions (pig restaurant in Windermere, Ferry and walk from the castle on west side of the lake and Roman fort on the way to scafell). He certainly has alot of passion for local history and the local area. Breakfast was average for a b+b but all freshly prepared. Husband enjoyed his full English. Toast was sometimes cold and thin and scrambled egg didn't quite do it for me but plenty of choice. They were very funny about arrival request after 8pm though.

Lovely querky hotel, Victorian style and quiet.Posted Jun 5, 2016
Pros: Breakfast and quiet.
Cons: Wallpaper/ carpet in the bedroom.
Location: Lots to see and do.
Had a lovely 2 night stay, excellent breakfasts, wide choice and very accommodating. The room on the top floor was very spacious and comfortable with period furniture, perhaps a little dated with the decor, but very large comfy 4 poster bed. Bathroom was spotless and modern. The house is lovely and in excellent location for walking to the pub or restaurants nearby. Good base for exploring the lakes. No body bothers you, left to your own devices if you choose, friendly staff if you want a chat or info. Enjoyed it.

A lovely period guesthouse, 5 minute walk from the centre of Windermere. Our room was upgraded, breakfasts were very good indeed, hosts friendly and there was plenty of parking.

The NewsteadPosted Apr 13, 2016 on Hotels
We were greeted with a friendly face. The hotel was beautiful and well cared for. Great breakfast and hot!!! Brilliant. Room was lovely. Great price for a lovely stay. Only a short walk into Bowness which has plenty of eating places at night and mini supermarkets for a cheeky bottle of wine in your room later Would definitely go again. Lovely.
