Not as welcome as we would have likedPosted Apr 25, 2014
Pros: Good facilities and friendly staff for the most part. Comfortable bed and good quality bed linen and pillows. Rooms and hotel in general very clean.
Cons: Standard rooms cramped. More awareness of seating arrangements for meals.
Location: Very good location by road which isn't too noisey. Great walks around the area and easy to reach Keswick and other places of interest.
Stayed over Easter with my daughter. The room we were given was a standard room, rather cramped, maybe they should take out some furniture as we could barely walk around the bed. That said the room was very clean and the bed comfortable with quality sheets. Our sleep was spoilt on every one of our three night stay due to our room being opposite the corridor door which banged and people talking outside our door. It was also above the main front hotel door, so I recommend you avoid this room if possible. Another guest nearby had a dog which barked from time to time. I hadn't realised pets were allowed in the hotel at the time of booking. Overall the staff were excellent, particularly the younger waiters and bar staff who were so polite and friendly. Excellent sommelier and wine cellar. Unfortunately we had two meals ruined by being seated in a corner next to a service table on one side and a couple with a screaming baby on the other. When you are paying good money for dinnerl you don't expect this kind of disturbance. We felt as if we were treated like second class guests despite being of smart appearance and well mannered, so I don't know what criteria is needed to be treated better. The quality of the food was very good and came in a timely manner. However during our dinner service we were pretty much ignored after our main course had arrived. The restaurant lacked some atmosphere but tables well presented although some were too close together.

Wonderful wooded surroundings. You feel that you are away from it all. Great food.

Great location in the Borrowdale ValleyPosted Mar 7, 2013 on Hotels
Good food and friendly, efficient service. Cosy bar with real ales. Rather too much furniture squashed into the bedrooms and central heating not working in ours were the only things marring an otherwise excellent experience.

Stepping back in time.Posted Jul 10, 2012
It was like stepping back in time - a lovely hotel. I expected to see Miss Marple in the corner knitting.

Perfect hotel in the Lake DistrictPosted Jun 26, 2012
What's not to like? The Borrowdale is a gorgeous, comfortable old stone hotel about 4 miles from Keswich. Our rooms were comfortable, warm and cozy, exactly what you would want in the Lake District. The bathrooms are modern and ample. Downstairs are sitting rooms where you are free to curl up with a good book or take advantage of the free internet. The bar is welcoming and comfortable and overlooks a lovely sunporch which in turn overlooks the garden. The dining room is beautiful and the breakfast that they offer is superb. The Borrowdale is just the sort of place that you dream of when you plan your trip to England's Lake district. We have wonderful memories of our stay there.

Expensive but good qualityPosted May 21, 2012
Pros: The ambience
Relatively expensive but good quality and in the middle of my favourite part of the lake district. We did not try the restaurant but the breakfast was very good.
