Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort

Santa Barbara Plantation, Willemstad - Map
"Wonderful facility if a little out of the way"
The Santa Barbara Beach Resort in Curacao is one of those places that actually is BETTER than what the pictures from the property present. The grounds are pristine, the staff (in all areas) are unfailingly polite, helpful, and friendly, and the rooms are very nicely appointed and clean! In terms of any kind of concern one might have in that regard, you can let those concerns dissolve! There are a couple of important pieces of information that might be useful to travelers who are deciding on a location to vacation in Curacao. First, this resort is at the far east of the island. It is far from almost everything. If you are OK with going from the airport to the hotel and staying there to just relax, then that is not a concern. If , however, you want to see more of the island, you may want to reconsider. Second, if you are expecting a resort where you can hear the waves crashing on the shore from your hotel room, this is not it. There are actually two beach areas. The first area (which is far enough from the property that you cannot hear the waves) has the typical ocean waves; however, there is no swimming in this area because it is very rocky. While you can walk along this beach, you cannot at all walk in it. The second beach runs parallel to this one and some rooms are close to this beach; however, there are no waves at all. THere is a long pier and a shallow water, which is great for families with small children, but will not give yoiu the 'ocean sound' from your room.

"5 Star Boutique Oasis"
Our family of 4 stayed at the Baoase in Curacao in March of 2016. Everything was top notch from the facilities, to the staff, to the food. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world, but what sets the Baoase apart was the boutique feel and attention to detail. The hotel is family run and you can tell that they take much pride in what they do. Every effort was made to get to know us by name and to remember our preferences. At the time, the hotel consisted of 24 units, mostly 2 to 4 bedroom villas. Most had their own access to a pool shared by 4 units and a direct access to the beach. We were told it was fully booked at the time of our stay, but we would never have known. Although the hotel opens its open air restaurant to the public on occasion, they will limit seating to make sure that their staying guests take priority. There was a small protected beach and everything had a Balinese feel. The grounds were immaculate. We could walk to a local marketplace from the hotel and all activities could be arranged from the hotel. In addition, we could kayak and snorkel right from the beach. While there was enough on Curacao to keep us busy, we often didn't want to wander beyond the resort, and that was unusual for our active family! We highly recommend it!

"Nicely restored historical property in downtown"
Beautifully restored historical property, very well maintained. It is quite large and spread out, you will need navigating it until you get used to the size. Centrally located in the heart of downtown, easy quick walk to all downtown tourist attractions. Very limited nightlife after 6pm in downtown Curacao and also on property. Everything closes by 4-5pm once cruise ships depart. Tried the onsite Jaipur restaurant, very mediocre food that is best to avoid.

"Old but not bad"
Old hotel, needs renovation but nice place to stay if you're not picky. Staff was very nice and helpful. Beach is clean and quite but small. Pool is nice too. Casino is small but has a good variety of slots and table games. Not a big name hotel if that's what you're used to but I would definitely stay there again.

"Beautiful resort in a secluded location"
This resort is at the extreme northwest end of the island, somewhat isolated, separated, and distant from the bustle and activity on other parts of the island. The setting is beautiful but the place is in need of some serious maintenance attention. Resort staff members were always ready to solve the problems that arose with our unit; however, these problems would not exist if a planned preventative maintenance program were in place. The resort consists of multiple buildings spread out over a spacious oceanfront site. Many rooms, including ours, have an incredible view. A casual bar and restaurant overlook the ocean, and a beautiful beach is located at the bottom of the cliff (accessed via 30 or so steps down from the resort). Adjacent to the beach is a beach bar and dive center. Our favorite part of our experience at the resort was snorkeling right off the beach. Fantastic! There are numerous other beaches within a short drive along the leeward coast, all of which have fantastic snorkeling. Otherwise, the resort feels isolated and there are not many restaurants nor any markets (nor anything else) nearby. The drive to the main city on the island is about an hour and the "village" of Westpunt really has nothing other than houses. Though we enjoyed our week, we would probably elect to stay elsewhere (i.e., closer to the city) on our next trip to Curacao.

"Holidays with mom"
Didn`t see the quality of other Hilton Hotels. For example it is a very old hotel with cheap renovations. The rooms have old furniture and in our case the toilet was partially damaged, among others. Nice view, nice bar/restaurant at the beach. The beach is small, artificial, but ok. Breakfast is terrible and everyday the same, served from 6:30 am to 11 am but if you come after 9:00 you miss some stuff. Transport to town is offered only twice a day and before 4 pm, when it is too hot to go to town. Afterwards you have to pay 15$ for a 6 km trip. At least but not last, they have two Macaws in a small cage and claim to have them in an "old included hotel", terrible, really dissapointing.

"Great location and tranquil pools, beach service"
We picked this hotel because of the photos of the natural pools set amongst the gardens. It looks just like the photos and they provide a tranquil environment for lounging. The accommodations are rustic feeling - get a second storey room and enjoy the balconies which are quite large and provide a private-ish setting. The bathrooms are pretty basic and the beds could use more pillows. The beach is nice and you have good and drink service which is a nice bonus. The in room coffee is delicious and a little fridge in room means you can go to store and pick up some drinks or snacks which is always nice. The food at the restaurant is good but service is slow. They have a great fresh fish night on Fridays. A couple of nights during our stay we heard club music well into the night which meant disrupted sleep for me but my husband slept through it. Bring ear plugs or join the party if that is your thing. I would suggest renting a car for your stay as cabs are expensive and driving is easy.
