Incredibly expensive

Posted Mar 19, 2017
The food prices were unbelievable. My wife and I chose not to do an inclusive package and ended up paying $58US for 2 serves of scrambled eggs. Unbelievable.....in Peru????No toast no sides nothing else. Prices are probably set based on what the old world money will pay. All staff were excellent

Stay a minute's walk from Machu Picchu entry

Posted Mar 10, 2017
Pros: Closeness to entry gate at Machu Picchu. Service was excellent! Dining room serves well prepared food and service was excellent there too!
Cons: The hotel is small and there's no room for expansion so bathrooms are small as are the bedrooms. However, you can't beat the location.
Location: Machu Picchu, of course, and the onsite gardens are charming.
We spent two nights and were happy we did. We had two beautiful afternoons to view the archaeological site and were not able to climb up the mountain on the second morning due to heavy rains. We felt two days to see the site were absolutely necessary so this hotel is very convenient.

Disappointing

Posted Jan 20, 2017
Very noisy during day as lodge is next to bus terminal. Problem with hot water. Very limited views of Machu Picchu. Very limited facilities. No pick up and return to train station offered. Restaurant food needs to improve. Only junk food and cola drinks in room mini-bar. Not worth the money charged.

Location, location, location

Location: This hotel definitely earns its reputation based on location; being able to enter Machu Picchu before the crowds arrive made it worth the cost.
Room was small but comfortable, and well appointed. Staff were kind and helpful, as is the norm in Peru. The hotel is not as luxurious and way more expensive than others we stayed at in Peru. You are paying the premium to get access to Machu Picchu before the crowds arrive. Tip: enter the ruins as they open at 6 am, and enjoy for a couple of hours, you can exit and eat breakfast and then return later.

Stay here if you can afford it

Posted Oct 30, 2016
Pros: It's proximity to Machu Picchu - less than a minute walk - just about make up for everything. The service was excellent.
Cons: The room was only a little better than average. This is understandable, but disappointing. The bathroom is small, as is the bedroom.
Location: Everyone who stays here is here to see Machu Picchu.
The room is small (but you have no more than a carry-on suitcase with you). The room does have a terrace, which can be pleasant. The service from the staff was excellent (thanks, Aaron!). The food is just a little above average, nothing special, although quite expensive. Again, though, great service. The entire hotel (not that big) and the entire reason to stay here is for its one minute proximity to Machu Picchu.

DON'T STAY HERE--NOT WORTH THE COST OR HEALTH RISK

Posted Jul 8, 2016 on Hotels
My wife got a very expensive case of food poisoning! We paid more than $1,100 (meals included) for one night to be right next to Machu Picchu, so we could get the most out of our visit. We ate lunch and dinner at the hotel, and my wife got very ill during the night. The hotel referred us to a local doctor, but refused to cover the $111.55 cost!

Dear Sir John good afternoon We have just received your comment about food poisoning suffered by his wife and we really sorry about what happened. For our part we want to tell that from 07 years ago our hotel has been working with the SQF system (Safe Quality Food), which provides quality and safety in all foods and beverages that offer our guests in our hotel in Peru there are only 03 hotels that work with this certificate system and we are one of them Cases like yours were greeted at our hotel, and 100% of these cases were reviewed, tracked well as analyzed in laboratories and always the result that the evils by food poisoning were originated outside our property, perhaps caused in Lima was obtained , Cusco, the Sacred Valley or in the village of Machu Picchu. Please know that our company is committed and concerned about the health of all our guests and therefore can spend a beautiful stay with us. For our part we can only send a pleasant greeting and hopefully in the not too distant future, we can have them on you and your wife back with us. The "full" Machu Picchu

Posted Jun 10, 2016 on Hotels
The Belmond is something that you do if you are going to Machu Picchu whether for a day or a season. If you don't do it, you will regret it! And don't forget the Hiram Bingham train back to Cuzco.
