Nice hotel in the vibrant city center. Early check in was a bad bad experience.

Best hotel in Amsterdam

Posted Sep 10, 2017
We had a fabulous suite with our own private entrance. Our butler welcomed us with a glass of champagne. Beds were incredibly comfortable. We will definitely stay here next year when we come back!

Charming, quiet boutique hotel amid hectic city.

Posted Aug 31, 2017
Pros: Great location, unique, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable bad, friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: Room was on the small side, not a lot of space for unpacking and putting away belongings.
Location: 10 minute walk to main train station. We walked to everything.
We arrived at 830 AM after overnight flight. They were apologetic that our room wasn't ready! We were upgraded to a king room, though our reservation was for a queen. They called our cell phone when the room was ready. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Beautiful courtyard/garden, nice place to have a drink after a long day touring the city. Hotel is beautifully and tastefully decorated, everything looked clean and new. Very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast buffet. Restaurant has view of canal.

Beautiful hotel, watch for extra charges.

Posted Aug 12, 2017
Pros: The location, the history and the room.
Cons: Some parts of the rooms are beginning to show a bit of wear and tear. The TV in the bathrooms while lovely did not work and the sound between rooms
Location: Lots of places to walk and eat. Lots of good stores nearby and the canal is right there for watching boats go by.
We stayed here for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and it was a sensational hotel in a great area. The staff were slightly dismissive and seemed to take a lot of time to respond. It almost seems like there is a bit of an air of snobbery with some of the staff members. I especially noted this on the first night I arrived when I was alone. We had a butler service but I have no idea outside of his walking me to my room what else he did. What I found most disappointing was the surprise charges on the room bill. On our second day we arrived to the room to find a small bottle of champagne in ice and two glasses. We assumed this was a gift to celebrate our anniversary and enjoyed it thoroughly. I even went so far as to thank the front desk staff. When we went to check out it was very early in the morning and the single staff member simply printed the bill and charged me. I realize I could have argued about the 72.00 euro bill for a half bottle of champagne but I was so shocked by it I simply paid.

Great hotel, excellent service, fantastic location

Posted Aug 8, 2017
Pros: The location, the comfort, and overall treatment and experience.
Cons: Nothing, we had an excellent stay.
Location: The hotel is centrally located. It is near the Museum District and Anne Frank House. You can walk to those attractions within 25-30 minutes.
We stayed for a period of seven days at this hotel. From the time of check-in to the time we left, we were treated with the quality expected from a five star hotel. We had a canal view room, but due to noise, we opted to change rooms during our stay. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating. They moved us to a garden view room which was exceptional. They followed up to make sure we had no additional issues or problems, which we really appreciated. The location is very central to everything. You can walk everywhere without having to take a Taxi or Metro. The concierge assisted us in booking excursions and gave suggestions on local restaurants to eat. He even helped us find a laundromat which was extremely helpful since we had been in Europe for three weeks. Based on our overall experience and treatment, we will definitely come back to this hotel and thank the staff for making our vacation a very pleasant experience.

Greedy Management Team. Avoid.

Posted Aug 7, 2017
I have stayed at The Grand many, many times over the years. It is a lovely place. And they used to be service oriented. I had a recent experience that will make me never go back. I accidentally booked a non-cancellable rate on Expedia instead of the cancellable rate and had to change my travel plans. The change was over a month in advance and due to very extenuating circumstances. The manage team refused to give me any credit at all. Not even for one of the two evenings. They rebooked the room so they were completely whole PLUS they kept my $1,000. That is simply not right. And not something you do to a good customer. I will never go back. George Saterson

Pros: Awesome staff, great location, comfortable beds and a great room.
My friend and I stayed at the Sofitel for four nights. Everything about the hotel was great! The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful! The room was fantastic. Very comfortable bed and very nice bathroom. The hotel was in a great location too. The hotel was luxurious and would highly recommend staying at this property.
