Nice hotel and good location

The hotel was very accommodating of my situation: check-in is not supposed to be until 2 pm, but since my flight arrived at 6 AM and I arrived at the hotel at 8 AM after an exhausting 20+ hr flight with a 10+ hour layover, they were more than happy to open up my room for me easily, where I immediately passed out from exhaustion. The room was very comfortable: good water pressure and hot water, good AC, good free wifi that actually works at a reasonable speed (rare in Tanzania- I lived there for 4 years and stayed in many hotels) nice bed, and the view from the balcony is absolutely perfect (beautiful ocean view). The breakfast was free and also very good. There are just a couple of areas that look like they could improve from renovation and one of these is the balcony railings: I was scared to lean on the balcony rail because it did not look stable. Other than that, I would highly recommend this hotel and it is a good price for offering similar accommodations to the very expensive hotels in Dar (I've also stayed at Serena).

Absolutely terribly. They call this place the "golden toilet". No surprise everyone changes hotels after a night. Don't waste your money.

Avoid this hotel

Pros: The setting - right next to the sea!
Cons: Customer service
This hotel is in the most beautiful setting, but my experience of staying here was completely ruined by the appalling levels of service. There is only one restaurant where the food was not fresh and where many staff do not understand English. You have to ask for anything several times and even then you wait a long time before anything is brought to you. The staff do not seem to be trained in customer service at all, and I was not listened to when I had to make a complaint at reception. The hotel do not seem to value customer experience at all. I will not be staying at this hotel again - there are plenty of other hotels nearby that are cheaper and very enjoyable to stay in.

One of my worst experiences in 40 years

Pros: Staff.
Cons: 1. Rooms 2. Facilities 3. Training
Location: The area around 'The Slipway' is great and about USD 5 one-way taxi fare.
1. The is apparently not a 'Golden Tulip' hotel; i.e it is no longer part of the Golden Tulip group 2. I was one of two guests at this hotel; I soon found out why... 3. Breakfast was so bad (hygiene and selection) that I only eat toast. 4. Staff are great but there has clearly been very little investment in the hotel I have been an aviation and tourism consultant for 40 years and have stayed in hotels around the world...this ranks as one of the worst.

Don't Go There.

Not recommended. Service was incredibly poor. For example: We emailed ahead for a shuttle to collect us at the airport and received a response 3 days after we arrived (asking if we need to be collected!!), the "business" centre equipment was faulty, every day between 11am and 2pm the room A/C shut down, the TV was not in tune, food was of mixed quality.

Golden Tulip has great ambiance, and large rooms. Hotel manager and staff went out of their way on numerous occasions to assist me. Very customer oriented and friendly.

Location: This area.
Friendly staff taking good care of me. An infinity pool open from sunset to sunrise. Lovely view, specially from the bar by the sea , and the hotel is in a relative safe area of Dar, where I felt safe walking around by myself for a couple of hrs, exporing.
