Great staff just not enough staff!

Posted Apr 4, 2017 on Hotels
The staff was generally very helpful and friendly. We arrived looking forward to some down time by the pool - we had long drives on Friday and Sunday - hoping for some relaxation in the pool on Saturday between meetings. Arrived to be told the pool wasn't open yet. The weather in the area is always warm by this time of the year. Breakfast was a challenge both mornings - again the staff was helpful and friendly just understaffed for a hotel with no vacancies - it is hard to man the front desk with people checking out and take care of making sure the breakfast items are prepared and stocked - biscuits and gravy were out or running out both mornings, bagels, bread and pancakes to warm were out multiple times during breakfast time again just seemed understaffed for a completely booked hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful just not enough staff on duty at peak times to adequately take care of customers.

Thank you so much for your response. Your comments are truly helpful as we want to be able to accommodate our guests in the best possible way. Breakfast can be a challenge, but we are always striving for improvements. We appreciate your patience during this transition from The Darien Inn. We expect to have more improvements to give our guests a great stay at a great value. We are sorry that the pool was not available for you during your stay. We would suggest calling ahead just to make sure that the pool has opened for the season. We hope you will give us another opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future.

The bed seemed to be clean. However, there was black mold around the top of the shower panel. I can send pictures if necessary. We were told by the clerk that there were no rooms available anywhere for at least fifty miles or we would NOT have stayed there!!!!

A nice place to spend the night

Posted Apr 2, 2017
Pros: Cleanliness is the most important aspect of any lodging in which I stay, and the standard was met here. The bathroom was especially sparkling clean.
Cons: If this motel was a Ritz-Carlton I would make some recommendations for improvement, but for the price of the room and the location it was top-notch.
Location: There is very little to do in the immediate area. Within walking distance are several good fast food places and a Ruby Tuesday that was very popular.
I checked in later and checked out earlier than most, so just needed a clean, safe place to sleep. This motel was just what I was looking for. I checked other reviews and agree with the good ones. There are a few friendly outside cats which adds a sense of home to the place as I am an animal lover. I was in a rush to leave for an event, but the breakfast looked very nice though not lavish, and there was a group enthusiastically chowing down at 7 am. The lobby is clean and inviting and provided a good first impression of the place. Overall, it looks like management is making a good effort to run an very nice motel, which for the price of the room was a great value and even better than what I expected.

Thank you so much for the time and attention you gave for your thorough review of Darien Econo Lodge. Your detailed comments are truly the feedback we need to improve in providing a great service to our guests. First, we are very pleased that you found our hotel to be clean, especially the "sparkling clean" bathroom and that the lobby was inviting. Second, we love that you felt you you received a great stay for the value based on the location and our particular type of hotel. Last, we are happy you had close access to the Ruby Tuesday and other nearby restaurants and that you appreciated our breakfast setup (yes, as early as 7 a.m. we can have an enthusiastic crowd!). We hope that you will give us the honor of serving you again as we continue to transition from the Darien Inn. We are a good stop for our proximity to the beaches at St. Simon's Island and Jekyll Island, Skipper's Fish Camp, and local and surrounding historical treasures. It was a pleasure serving you!

Acceptable but not exceptional

Posted Mar 15, 2017 on Hotels
We arrived in Darien after travelling for 16 hours. As we were ahead of check in time, we were very relieved that the hotel was able to have our room ready within 20 minutes of our arrival. The important things in our room appeared to be clean but the corners showed lack of attention. Behind the door and under the bathroom counter there was dust and dirt as though those areas hadn't seen a broom in several weeks. Seeing this leaves one to wonder how clean everything else really was. Continental breakfast was adequate and there were a few restaurants nearby for dinner. Unfortunately, there was construction going on on the street out front which was unpleasant and several of the buildings directly around the hotel were empty making the area seem run down and tired. While service was good, we will not be too eager to stay in this hotel and area again.

Thank you for your four-star review. We are happy that you checked into your room within a reasonable time frame. Your comments regarding the dust and dirt do give us pause as this is not in keeping with our standards. We will be reviewing this situation so that we may improve our service for future guests. Also, we regret that the continental breakfast was only adequate. We hope that you will give us another chance to be of better service, especially once the road construction is complete.

Econo Lodge not great

Posted Mar 13, 2017 on Hotels
business trip. couldn't find many choices for under $100.00. Lamp shades were broken, no one had cleaned behind the beds on the box frame; lots of hair and dirt, shower curtain moldy; not one picture on the walls; bed was clean; checked for bed bugs but didn't see any evidence; old motel, area depressed.

Nice Stop-Over

Posted Mar 2, 2017
Pros: Cleanliness
It was a convenient stop over on our way home. Its proximity to I-95 and to fuel and restaurants made it a great stop for us. the staff was warm and friendly. The room was clean , comfortable as was the hotel. We'd stop again.

Just stopped off highway for a few hours. Man at front desk was polite and professional. Beds were comfortable but the room seemed poorly thrown together. It was half the advertised size with broken curtains, visible plywood and a cold shower. Maybe it's a work in progress as the name of the hotel was thrown over the old sign with a banner. We should have gone little further.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy that you found our staff to be polite and professional and that the beds were comfortable. We are in transition as the Econo Lodge. Our expectation is to provide exceptional value to our guests. However, your experience is not in keeping with our standards and this will be looked into expediently. We hope that you will provide us an opportunity to be of service to you in the future.
