Although the hotel looks old from the outside, it is quite well kept up and updated on the inside. I stayed in a "studio, king bed" room - more like a queen by US standards, but had a nice living area with couch, chairs, coffee table and work desk. Everything was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small, but perfectly acceptable, with electronically controlled shower, the usual toiletries, and even a wash cloth (unusual for many German hotels...). The hotel restaurant had a reasonable dinner menu, and a decent wine list. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, including eggs to order, and the usual American and German fare. It is not downtown - but is right around the corner from the train station, with bus and tram stops, so getting around is very easy. It's also literally 30 minutes to FRA via the AirLiner Airport bus from the train station. The free WiFi was adequate - but don't expect to stream content or get smooth Skyping without paying an extra 5 euros per day. The only negative was a lack of power outlets at the desk. You have to unplug the coffee maker to free an outlet.

This place is within walking distance of everywhere desirable in Darmstadt. It is very comfortable, and the breakfast is top notch. The location and the parking are convenient, and the staff is helpful. I think it is the best value in town, by far.

The room looked lovely and welcoming and the bed, pillow and bedding was extremely comfortable. We were there for 3 nights and slept well every night. We had requested a room away from the road and this enabled we had no traffic noise as we prefer to sleep with the window open. The bathroom was more than adequate and soap was provided for shower and sink.
We did take our own kettle and european extension lead and this was used frequently for hot drinks in the morning and at night time. (The only available electric point was halfway up the wall so the extension lead was invaluable and it also enabled us to recharge our mobile phones.)
The hotel was just a five minute walk away from the town centre and ideally situated. It is also quite close to the railway station.
We did not try the breakfast at the hotel, as we met up with family during the day. There was no wifi in the bedroom either, which was a surprise. I believe it was available in the bar area but we chose not to use this facility.
We would stay there again.
