"Top quality Country House Hotel."
We have stayed here before. Our room was described as cosy. It was infacr huge. One of the new rooms in Courtyard. Large bed, sumptuous ensuite. Breakfast up to normal high standard, staff superb as usual.

"Lovely comfortable hotel in middle of dartmoor"
Very homely welcome. Excellent dinner, all staff very friendly and chatty but not intrusive. Very relaxed feel in lounge in front of large open fires, good coffee! Good choice of breakfast.

"fully recommended."
Really nice hotel in a small village. Plenty of parking and with the hotel pub across the car park and a restaurant you have plenty of choices of meals. I booked a single room, the bed was pretty much a double with a well lit large bathroom. Breakfast was lovely and I would fully recommend this hotel to anyone - especially if you are on businesa.

An attractive building with lovely gardens. We had two rooms ( we were asked to change rooms to accommodate guests for a wedding) the first one frankly was very small, with insufficient storage facilities and noisy. The second room was completely different being more modern, roomy with excellent facilities. The food was excellent as were the staff. We would happily recommend the hotel provided the accommodation was in the newer section.

"Dog friendly. Made very welcome"
Stayed here before with my late mother. Came down to visit my parents grave. Hotel was perfectly situated for all amenities. My mum loved the hotel. She used to recall sitting on the wall of the church opposite as a child and watching the dancing that took place in the now restaurant. She made an promise to her mother (my gran) that she would stop at the hotel one day. Luckily I was able to see that promise kept for her - albeit when she was in her 80's. But she loved it. Brought back lots of very happy memories. So stopping here myself was a memory jolt for me and something I will gladly do again and whole heartedly recomment to others. I do love the acceptance of dogs and the little welcome gift you put out for them - nice touch. Thank you for a wonderful stay and constant smiles it bought me.

Pocket Guide: Lydford Dartmoor Independent Hotels

A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
