We wanted a central location in order to walk about Darwin and were delighted not only with the location, which also was an easy walk to the docks, but with the hotel itself. We had 3 days exploring by foot and on the Big Bus.

The Hilton Darwin is a good hotel in a central location. Although it was built some time ago, it appears to have generally been well maintained. There is plenty to do nearby and it's not far from various smart venues along the esplanade. There's a gym and a pool on the 10th Floor. These are good facilities but unfortunately my room was next to the gym which opens at 6 am each day. Regrettably the gym's sound-proofing isn't particularly good, so I was often woken up early during my week's stay by thumping noises from the gym. So as one tip, I would suggest trying to avoid being put in a room that's near, or underneath the gym. As a further tip, you may like to join Hilton Honours if you're not already a member, as doing so is free (at the time of writing) and may enable you to have free wi-fi in the room (which might otherwise cost, I believe, around AUD 25 per day).

Staff were really friendly and helpful. 1-bed apartment was clean, comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. Nice touches like laundry detergent. Breakfast was fine but nothing special - good scrambled eggs but hard bacon!
Location is excellent, just outside the back entrance to the hotel is the stop for airport shuttle bus and AATKings tours, then just a few more steps are restaurants, takeaways, supermarket and some shops.
At a glance the pool seems small but it's plenty big enough. The 'spa' is pointless - the same temperature as the pool, but feels colder due to the bubbles.
I'd definitely stay here again.

Yes, they have wonderful and helpful staff, especially Charlotte. The service provided by the reception and dining staff were excellent. Yes, the room was comfortable enough. However, our room wasn't cleaned/vacuumed properly. There were still scraps left on the floor from the day before. The safe wasn't working and because it was a weekend there was no one to fix it. One of the main lights in our room wasn't working either. This led me to believe that no one thoroughly checks the room in respect to possible maintenance issues. We loved the hotel food (Teriyaki chicken and Massaman Beef) but the lasagna from the buffet was quite runny whilst the lamb curry was a bit bland and lacking the "punch". Proximity to the mall is a big plus and to Woolies.
