My wife and I recently stayed at the Hotel BB Palace and despite having a reservation for two nights, left after one due to the appalling conditions. Yet Hotels.com rated the hotel with 3.5 stars. We arrived to a very busy neighborhood with construction occurring immediately outside. After stepping around several bamboo logs and workers, we attempted to speak with the reservations desk to acquire our room key. However, the two persons at the reservations desk spoke very little English (this became even more apparent when we were unable to get directions to a local venue because of the language barrier). It was only after a third person who spoke better English arrived at the desk that we were able to get our room. When we finally arrived in our room, we were less than impressed. The room was small and although fairly clean, it was obvious that the furniture and bedding had been well used and was long past their primes. Most unnerving was the bathroom which had only a shower that ran directly into the sink and toilet so that when turned on, the shower flooded the bathroom. And to top it off, there was no hot water during our entire stay (both at night and during the morning). The hotel itself is on a very busy street in a busy neighborhood and not well shielded from the noise therein. Therefore we heard car horns and dogs barking all night preventing much sleep (and we were on the next to highest floor). Further, when I attempted to call the reception desk, no one answered the phone. I was forced to go downstairs (the elevator was turned off at night) and found the person supposed to be at the reception desk asleep on the couch. The conditions were so bad that my wife and I booked a new reservation at a different hotel for the following night even though we had already paid for the second night. Hotel BB Palace is at best a two-star hotel, and absolutely not a 3.5 star hotel, and Hotels.com did a disservice by listing it as such.
