Talkeetna Basecamp Wilderness Cabin, accessible by car

Adults-only cabin in Talkeetna with sauna
A retired National Park Service ranger, Peter is your host at Talkeetna Basecamp. he lives onsite in a small log home.

Camp 1, the private guest cabin, is available from May 1 through October 31. The cabin has one bedroom with queen-size bed; two large windows look out into the peaceful, undeveloped woodlands surrounding the cabin. The cabin is perfect for a party of two; a full-size sofa bed in the small living room provides sleeping capacity for two additional adults. The full kitchen has a refrigerator, microwave, gas oven and cook top. We provide quality cookware, dishes, utensils, and a variety of staples such as quality coffee and teas, spices, cooking oils and sundries (foil, cleaning products etc.). The dining area table seats four. The single bathroom has a tiled shower, sink and toilet. Cedar boards line the interior of the nearby outhouse for guests who want to bypass the cabin toilet and try a true Alaska experience!

Interaction with guests: I live on-site in a small log home. Based on guest preference, I can be as available or invisible as possible to guests. If you want privacy and to be left alone, I'll do everything I can to make that happen. If you need or want more engagement or help, I'll try my best to deliver!

WiFi is available. Base camp has 4G LTE cellular phone service so guests can use their phone hot spot to connect to wireless network service.

Sauna: Cabin guests have private and exclusive use of the wood-fired sauna. Firewood is provided. The sauna has lower and upper outside sitting decks for cool downs, libation and reflection. Both decks offer spectacular views of Denali, other major peaks of the Alaska Range and the expansive Susitna River Valley - weather dependent of course. If guests need help starting or maintaining a fire in the sauna (or cabin) wood stoves, we'll show you how or do it for you.

During the growing season, guests are invited to sit in the greenhouse or attached Atrium and walk through the outdoor gardens. It takes a little more planning and effort, but one can grow garden crops in Alaska.

Parking: Talkeetna Basecamp has plenty of year-round parking space for our guests. We can accommodate two SUV/truck type vehicles with trailers. Trailers need to be backed into parking areas; we don't have a pull through turn-around. Large motorhomes are easily accommodated.

Guest accommodations at this cabin offer fireplaces and DVD players. Rooms open to patios. Kitchens offer refrigerators, stovetops, microwaves, and cookware/dishes/utensils. Bathrooms include showers and hair dryers.
Recreational amenities at the cabin include a sauna.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or nearby; fees may apply.

Great location in a beautiful surrounding
It is not just about the cabin itself. This booking is about the surrounding forest, greenhouse and vegetable garden, sauna to warm up, and a deck to cool down after sauna while sipping a drink. All of that with the view of Denali and a nice chat with the host.

5/5 Excellent

Modern cabin wit
Amazing experience. Wonderful generous host. Stunning views of Denali from deck above sauna. Everything necessary to feel at home. A great 4 day stay.

Exceeded our Expectations
I cannot speak enough to how much we enjoyed our three day stay here. Had all the rustic charm one could ask for, and perfectly clean at that. Adding to that, much thought went into creating a naturally self-sustaining experience. Great job guys.

Talkeetna Basecamp Made Our Vacation Perfect! 5 Stars is not nearly enough!
Beautiful, tranquil, spectacular views from the deck...comfy, cozy, extremely well appointed cabin...owners Peter and Martha felt like friends and were amazing, gracious hosts desiring to take care of any detail should it arise - nothing did but they asked if we needed anything every time we saw them anyway. We have stayed in VRBO properties for years and Peter, Martha, and their cabin made for the best experience we have ever had by far! We spent every night we had in Alaska at Basecamp...and it would have been enough if Basecamp was all we saw. The attention to detail in the cabin, the beautiful views from the deck, the trails around property, sauna, greenhouse, garden for fresh picked veggies, and the peaceful wilderness quiet that truly gave us a restful and calming vacation. But wait, there's more. Peter and Martha are both retired park rangers and offered excellent advice on things to do and places to see. We tried as much as we had time for in 11 days and wished we had more time. If you want excitement, don't miss the Talkeetna Air Taxi flightseeing of Denali with a glacier landing! There is a reason every review for Talkeetna Basecamp has been 5 stars. Everything past reviews said was true. If you ever visit the Talkeetna area, be sure to make your home base with Peter and Martha at Talkeetna Basecamp!
