With roughly 3,500 residents and nestled between sand dunes and saltmarshes, Dennis Port is one of Cape Cod’s smaller communities. But it has some of the Cape’s finest beaches, a quaint main street and classic New England homes overlooking Nantucket Sound, offering lots to love. Settle in to enjoy this peaceful seafront retreat.

The beaches are Dennis Port’s crown jewel, with the town’s southern edge bordering Nantucket Sound, known for relatively warm, calm water and comfortable sandy stretches. Stop at Cliff Metcalf Memorial Beach for an intimate, local experience reach the tiny beach via a narrow path through the dunes. For a seaside experience with more infrastructure, head to Haigis Beach, tucked behind tall sand dunes. Families appreciate the bathroom facilities, on-duty summer lifeguards and playground.

Head to Sea Street Beach for more dramatic vistas. Medium-sized with soft white sands, this beach delivers gorgeous sunset views over Nantucket Sound. Explore tidepools at low tide or take a long walk along the extended shoreline be aware that this beach is accessed by steep wooden steps which may be challenging for some visitors. On windy days, the water can be choppy. In inclement weather, consider having a drink or meal at one of the nearby oceanfront resorts instead.

Venture inland to Swan Pond River for non-beach nature exploration. Rent canoes, pedal boats, paddle boards or kayaks to explore the twisting coastal river that winds through marshlands full of fascinating and ecologically important wildlife. In town, watch a show at the Cape Cod Theatre Company, where family-friendly productions and even acting classes run throughout the summer season. Explore the quaint boutiques and cafés of the village center and stop by the Village Green in summer, where a regular concert series features folk and popular music.
