Very good alternative to airport or downtown
Posted Sep 20, 2016
I got the feeling most of the guests here are motorists en route along route 70, but I arrived by air for a meeting downtown. I was looking for a manageable, less expensive alternative to the downtown hotels, and tried this La Quinta hoping that I could commute without too much hassle. It worked out well: the local public transportation is very good.
Although the hotel staff are friendly, they couldn't recommend how to arrive from the airport apart from driving or taxi. But Peoria station on the A line from the airport is less than a mile from the hotel, and the northbound 45 and 121 buses leave frequently from there and can drop you right in front of La Quinta (ask for the 45th and Peoria stop). The airport pass you bought to ride the train takes care of your bus fare too. Don't try to walk from Peoria station, even if you're traveling light: there's no sidewalk in high traffic areas, you've already paid enough to ride the bus, and they run frequently even late at night.
Going the other way (across Peoria St. from La Quinta) you can buy a pass from the bus driver that gets you on the A train. If you're headed downtown instead of back to the airport the local day pass is much less expensive than the airport fare. I was usually able to get downtown in around 30 minutes. Check the Denver RTD website for fares and schedules.
