Shame

Posted Dec 8, 2016
Pros: Good location. great breakfast.
Cons: Put milk in rooms. Do not think bed in room was a king bed as advertised plus bed not comfy.
Location: Close to town centre and Opera house
Guest house was in a good location but parking an issue before 6pm. Had tea and coffee making facilities in room. Landlady said she didn't like U.H.T. packs of milk so no milk in room rule, landlady said she would leave a flask of milk fresh every day. Came back to house on second day at 3pm no milk available to make coffee went down to locate some milk could not rouse anyone. Went out at 5.30 for dinner then came back cold and ready for drink of tea and coffee at 8pm still no milk available, kept going down when front door opened to get milk but only quests arriving back no landlady. Gave up at 10pm. Next morning at breakfast asked if everything was Ok so mentioned the lack of milk the night before to be told the supermarket would have still been open so I could have gone out again to get some. At £85 per night did not think that was a good response. Its so easy to put a mini fridge in hallway or in rooms if landlady did not want to put U.H.T. milk in room. Only small issue but response not good.

Pros: Location and comfort with a welcoming atmosphere.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
Location: Great for all areas of Buxton as you are really central. Easy to get to the peaks buy train if you go from Buxton to New Mills New and change station
Close to station but quiet with a good view from room one which is upstairs. Lots of O S maps and guide books.Food was excellent and Jean is very helpful. Place to dry off walking boots was nice and the room was spacious and clean. Luxurious bed and some comfortable chairs with a nice shower once the water got hot.We were upstairs though.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Alpine, rooms were clean, well kept and modern. Jean (the owner) made us feel very welcome. Definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay here again in the future.

A lovely 2 days in Buxton.

Posted May 31, 2015
Pros: Easy to find with car parking be it on a slope .East 5 minute walk to the town .Very clean and spacious room .Comfortable bed .Lovely breakfast .
Cons: On suite a little bit small for us taller people but well designed .
Location: The guest house is elevated set on a lovely tree lined street .The town ,Opera house ,park and The Pavilion are about a 5 minute walk away .
An easy to find guest house .Parking was adequate for perhaps 4vehicles be it on a sloping driveway .We had a lovely clean room on the first floor with a very long bed (ideal for my height). The bedroom had a large bay window looking over a very pleasing tree lined street .I had a great nights sleep and enjoyed a pre ordered full breakfast in Jeans delightful breakfast room .Jean gave us a front door key as well as a room key .Buxton is a delightful Victorian town with many eye catching buildings as well as a beautiful park where you can just walk without being pursued by mechanical or motorised conveyances .We saw Calamity Jane at the Opera house of which both were fantastic .There are loads of coffee shops but we liked the pavilions easy seating area friendly staff with good coffee at realistic prices .We loved everything about our stay in Buxton.

No Hotel but better than.

Pros: Absolutely first class Guesthouse that succeeds most Hotels
Cons: Not a lot. Maybe improvement in the their Wi-if connection in some higher rooms
Location: Fabulous area of the Peak District
Firstly, Expedia should consider how they word their questions. Do not assume that everyone stays at a Hotel, so why not word it as 'Rate Your Accommodation' The questions suggests we all stay at a hotel. That is not always the case so the answers may not reflect correctly. In our case it was a Guesthouse. That is quite different to a hotel. In our case the guesthouse in question didn't have anything like the amenities of a typical average standard hotel with a restaurant or bar or leisure facility. What it did have was all the very best of the basic things right but at a level that was more inclined to reflect a 4/5 star hotel rating. Sure, the price was above average but then the quality of the room, the furnishings, the fittings and fixtures, the ensuite and cleanliness throughout exceeding that of most hotels i have generally experienced in the UK. Put that with the personal touch and you have excellence. Tell me how many hotels stand up to that and I'll pay the difference. Sadly there are very few and an indictment of the UKs indifference to change.

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing needed to be improved
Location: The location was great with only minutes to the town
The hotel was great and Jean went the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Having fresh milk for a cup of tea in the morning was the best.
