We had a lovely stay at The Pig of Lead last week. The whole experience was great, from the warm welcome, the superbly comfortable room to the delicious breakfasts. It is a great base from which to explore the area, I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Ideal base for exploring the area of Matlock and Matlock Bath. Hosts were very friendly and the breakfast was first class, all the produce was of good quality and nicely prepared/presented. Bedroom was very comfortable and clean, bathroom was excellent with choice of bath (after a long day walking) and shower for wake me up after good nights sleep. Car park is secure behind electrically operated gates. Will definitely return if visiting the area again.
An absolutely great 4 night break at the Pig of Lead from 31st August. Can't recommend highly enough. Spotlessly clean, full of character and our hosts Julie and John were superb even giving us a lift up a very steep hill to the village pub which was also excellent. Wonderful breakfasts as well. It's 6 out of 5 from us.
Thank you. John & Andrea.
Good breakfast location excellent for where we wanted to go Nice pub in Bonsal for good pub grub Expensive pub in Cromford for something special Good fish and chips in Cromford
Like some others who have reviewd room 2, we found the wash water tepid at best. Loss of sleep due to the noise from quarry lorries which start at 4 o'clock in the morning and the motorbikes on this busy road junction spoiled our stay.
That said, we could not praise our hosts enough for thier generosity and willingness to please. I do hope they can find a work around to the noise.
Very friendly and welcoming hosts. The room was spacious and had everything required - possibly a wardrobe might have been nice instead of a rail, but this was a very minor criticism, as there was plenty of drawer space. The bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Secure parking to the rear of the property. The owners were lovely people.
Liked the filling breakfasts esp the oatcakes! Lovely friendly couple running it. The fridge in our room was useful plus we had the use of a microwave in the breakfast room if we'd needed it. Julie and John didn't object to us ordering in a takeaway if we'd wanted to. Secure parking behind gates.
Nice hotel, plenty of parking, character features everywhere, lovely wood burner in the lounge, TV with freeview and DVD player in the room, very warm, very helpful staff and a really great breakfast made with local produce. 10/10, thankyou guys :)
We stayed here to go to Chatsworth flower show and Haddon Hall. A brilliant B&B ideally situated to the many attractions of the area. Very comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast excellent.
Historic building converted to a pub 1737 I think it said. Stayed there because of history and name interested me. On a very noisy corner with a lot of early morning truck traffic. Narrow stairs makes luggage a bit of a challenge for a senior.
Breakfasts were very good.
Julie is a friendly and very accommodating hostess. Room very comfortable. Lovely and filling breakfast set us up very well for the day ahead.
Having a guest fridge & microwave is a great idea. We made full use of these.
We enjoyed and would certainly love to return in the future.
We had a lovely welcome from Julie. The room was spacious and we had a great nights sleep in the large comfortable bed. The breakfast was well cooked and set us up for the day. An ideal place to stay if you're wanting to explore the Peak District. Would definitely return
The hostess Julie was very welcoming and the house is lovely. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable and luxuriously designed and wifi was good. The breakfast every morning was terrific. All in all a lovely experience and can not recommend enough
Comfortable accommodation, improved by the helpfulness of the hostess. Good choice of breakfasts, hot and cold. A comfortable place from which to tour the local area.
Very welcoming and helpful hosts, great breakfasts, ideal location for walking and some good pubs nearby for evening meals. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. We had a splendid few days here and would definitely return to the Pig of Lead.
Had an excellent stay. Stayed for two nights. Room was as described and clean and comfortable. The property was nice to look at and our hosts could not do enough to make our stay comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty with very good ingredients. I would certainly go there again.
Fantastic location for walking and attractions with friendly staff, comfortable rooms and amazing breakfasts (particularly the oatcakes!). Would love to go back again.
Our first visit to the Peak District was made so enjoyable by perfect weather and very pleasant accommodation at Pig of Lead. Large room with a huge bed and equipped with a fan to keep us comfortable at night. There is a bit of traffic noise, mainly first thing in the morning, but nothing too serious.
Breakfasts were delicious and varied according to preference and Julie was friendly and pleased to provide information about the area and places to visit.
Matlock Bath is a nice place to visit, with plenty to do and some good places to eat.
Pig of Lead was great, the owner was very helpful with information about the area and very friendly. We had an amazing breakfast every single morning that I still dream of now, and our room had all the comforts we needed, all while keeping a nice rustic, clean look. Bear in mind that the B&B is about 15 minutes away - walking- from both Cromford and Bonsall, but both of those have lovely pubs and shops and areas of historical interest. all in all, it was an excellent experience!
Fabulous B+B. Can't praise the owners highly enough. Great rooms, breakfasts and the personal touches were way beyond the call of duty.
You will not be disappointed stopping here.
We will definitely return.
Great location as a base for exploring the Peak District (history, villages and walking). Nice big room; excellent shower; bar fridge in room. Breakfast included. On-site parking. Very quiet location. Lovely hosts. Would stay again without a moment's hesitation.
The hostess Julie was very welcoming. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable and luxuriously designed. Wifi was good. The ensuite shower facility was very good. The breakfast was terrific and Julie was happy to accomodate a vegetarian. All in all a lovely experience.
A wonderful place for a break with extremely friendly staff. The room was superb and lovely and clean. We will certainly be back for another visit. Highly recommended.
booked this as a birthday suprise for my partner, had a lovely 2 night stay, bed massive, room comfortable and bathroom spotless, just right for seeing the dales and other attractions, would definately recomend.
Really enjoyed our two night stay. Room was very comfortable and the bed was huge. Breakfast was lovely. The proprietors were warm and welcoming. Easy parking. Thoroughly recommended.
Very nice little Bed and Breakfast, close enough to Matlock Bath for the illuminations without the noise of the crowds.
The Pig of Lead offers comfortable rooms with free wi-fi and free view tv, tea and coffee and ensuite shower rooms. Within a short walking distane, up the hill to Bonsall village is the Kings Head for a good value freshly prepared meal.
The Pig on Lead is an ideal location from which to reach lots of attractions in the Peak District. Matlock Bath,Bakewell & Chatsworth are within very close driving distance. The price for our 3 night stay was amazing.
Julie was lovely, so friendly & lots of tips on what to do .We will be going back.
What a delight! Our 4 night stay, felt like a home away from home - so comfortable, spotlessly clean, fabulous breakfasts and very, very friendly and happy hosts in Julie and John.
Their local knowledge was wonderful and helped us see areas that we wouldn't have seen on our own.
Even though there where 24 steps - room 5 was a delightfully big room and a huge bathroom - well worth the climb.
Great stay, we will return.
