Hotel is too large for my liking.

Posted Apr 17, 2017
Pros: Buffet breakfast and the view
Location: African American History Museum was outstanding!
There was a national convention being held during my stay there and although there are 8 elevators to the higher floors, there was often times a very very long wait to get on one to go up to our room, and then very crowded. The hotel was not "over-the-top" as I have experienced at other Marriott's. Bathroom was very small. Had to ask for enough towels for 2 people. The buffet breakfast was excellent as was the view.

This is a Marriott, folks.

Pros: Location, views from room, friendliness of staff.
Cons: Suite needs a make-over. Tired and dated. Add a second easy chair.
Location: Excellent location.
This Marriott is located in the Renaissance Center, a complex of shops, restaurants and office buildings. I was on a tight scheduled business trip so I had very little time to explore. In the day plus that I was there I never left the complex. Oh, my hotel was a Marriott which meant a decent but unexciting accommodation. I booked a suite in order to hold a meeting in my room. I arrived at 12:30 pm and was kept waiting for almost 2 hours, after check-in, to get into my room. Place to have lunch and hang-out in the cavernous lobby. The very friendly front desk clerks reminded me that 3 pm was check-in time but a rush had been placed on getting it ready. Two hours later? Still no room. I had to aggressively protest and lo and behold there was another suite available. The suite on the 63rd floor has one of the best views you will ever experience and certainly in Michigan if not anywhere. The room decor? Marriot blah, tired and dated. The furniture, an uncomfortable couch and a single uncomfortable but adequate desk chair and a desk comprised the "living room." The bedroom featured a single upholstered "easy" chair. Don't bring your wife or a significant other -- one of you is out of luck. Highlight: suite came with four bottles of water. Wi-fi in this $$$ suite? You will pay another $13 or 14 for the basic low speed wi-fi. It worked but l had to keep re-signing on for cell phone wi-fi to work. Breakfast room-service was just OK, meaning the breakfast. Room service was on time.

The man at check-in was incredible rude. The valey service and bellhop were very nice. The amenities were lacking and the breakfast bar was $22 a head. The bed was comfortable, but there were stains on the shower curtains and bed linens, and the walls were in disrepair. Keep in mind, it is very difficult to walk around this hotel as you can get lost very easily. Also, our mini fridge was broken in our room.

Beautiful view

Pros: the view
Cons: management of large convention crowds
Location: not much now that the Joe Louis Arena is closing
This was our first time staying here. We have stayed at most of the other hotels in this area of Detroit. The hotel itself was lovely. The room had an amazing view. I've had cleaner rooms however there was nothing unsanitary just dusty. The staff were very nice. The big issue we had was with the convention of high school students going on. it took us 1.5 hours to get up to our room after the Red Wings game. Security should have been available to handle the elevator traffic so guests could go up and down in an orderly timely fashion.

They didn't have a room for us and about 100 other people. It was a complete disaster.
