Good staff old building bad timingPosted Aug 25, 2015
I stayed at st. Regis on a day that One Direction was having a concert my floor swelled like weed and was very loud. I told staff about the smell and noise and twenty minutes later the noise stopped.

Pros: The personable staff and "old" hotel feel.
Our stay at the St. Regis was great. The staff was awesome, the room was clean and comfortable. We did not use the restaurant or bar, but they too appeared to be very nice. We were also fortunate to be able to use the hotels shuttle to take us to the event we were attending in Detroit. Overall it was a VERY nice experience.

Sleep during the day!Posted Aug 8, 2015
Pros: Staff, Cleanliness, Style/Decoration
Cons: Soft-close doors/hinges to guest rooms Locate large parties together, and away from other guests
Location: Motown Museum Downtown Detroit Detroit Riverwalk
The staff were nice, the hotel is clean with comfortable rooms in a good location near the Motown Museum. But we checked out early after 2 nights' stay (Thursday-Friday) because we could not sleep. All night long the other guests were roaming the halls, laughing, shouting and going into each others' rooms (until 5AM) with no regard for other guests. Apparently there was a family reunion underway, so switching floors would not have helped since this party was everywhere. What also does not help is the fact that the doors slam loudly (no soft close), so every couple minutes we heard a loud slam. The staff were apologetic about the noise and we were not charged for the last night we were supposed to stay. Note that the jackhammer noise started promptly at 7AM as a parking garage was under construction across the street, which I did not mention as the staff cannot control this. Beware that only valet parking is available (unless you want to look around the neighborhood and walk to other parking), so you may have to wait a couple minutes for the valet to appear and then another couple minutes to get your car. Leave yourself some time, because this is not convenient if you are in a hurry to get somewhere. Ask ahead if there is a large party during your stay, and request to be located away from them!

Hotel is in serious need of an update.Posted Jul 31, 2015
Cons: See above.
Location: My family's home, former university and cultural center of Detroit.
Hotel is in need of updating of technology and upgrades to finishes, new paint and carpet cleaning. The first impression is the smell of stale cigarette smoke. The guest room's thermal controls are antiquated and don't function, making it impossible to adjust the thermal comfort of the room. The TV is still an outdated small, cathode ray tube type with a remote control that does not turn the TV off or on. There are NO electric outlets at the night stand, requiring the guests to charge mobile devices out of reach of the bed. The owners/operators need to make an investment to improve their property.

Nice Hotel & Good LocationPosted Jul 14, 2015
Pros: Location. You are paying very reasonable prices for a hotel with this location.
Cons: Update the Rooms and TV, it was an "old" cathode ray tub TV.
Location: Location is great minutes away (by car) from midtown, downtown, freeways, and museums.
The biggest advantage to this Hotel is its easy access to all key points in midtown & downtown Detroit. Soon there will be the M-1 streetcar that will end at the end of the street (Woodward & W Grand). The area is ok but pretty dead on a weekend as it is mostly government offices in the direct area, but your are right next to Detroit's iconic Fisher Building, it is a very short drive to Detroit's happening midtown. The hotel was busy, which is always a good sign, and the staff were very nice and helpful. Be prepared for the non-optional $20-a-day valet parking. The room was good, quiet and clean.

Older hotelPosted Jul 13, 2015
Pros: It was less expensive than most others.
Location: Motown Museum, Detroit art museums
No coffee, except in the room, before 8am on the weekends until the restaurant opens. They could have a pot in the microwave room earlier. Very friendly staff and clean room though carpet needs replacing.
