Each is perched atop a granite pedestal and reaches about 13 feet in height.

The station opened in 1913 and remained operational until 1988. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest rail station in the world.
A personal connection to this building would be that my father shipped out from this station to Marine boot camp after being drafted in the Korean War.

The old amtrack Detroit train station, luckily being restored... I am so happy that our waiter the night before told us to come here for coffee and breakfast. The coffee is delicious as was the food and it's really a nice spot to pass the morning. It's super cosy, bright and the servers were friendly - love it
#Detroit #cafe #corktown #restaurant Lovely little lighthouse with a rather pretty trail. In the heart of downtown Detroit, a city that had fallen from its former glory has begun to rebuild at an exponential pace. New shops and and restaurants are popping up every day. New streetlamps and patched roads continue to restore Motor City to a commercial, social, and historical destination. Most of all, a renewed sense of hope erodes at outdated stigmas, paving the way for a brighter future.
#Detroit #MotorCity #comeback #nevergiveup #rebuild #hope #LifeAtExpedia That's right folks. Only in the D can u find One of the best places in Detroit to enjoy a pint.
The Grand Trunk Pub occupies the old Trunk Rail Road's ticket station and is located in the heart of downtown Detroit, The building still showcases the early 1900’s architecture and beautiful 25 foot vaulted ceilings and chandeliers.
And most importantly the beer selection is very pro-Michigan, as all beers on tap are from the Mitten state. The 184 ft Shepard Fairey Mural on the back of the Compuware Building downtown can be seen from any place on Gratiot Ave from the northeast but the very best view is from the People Mover.
If you go before August 15/15, you can see his exhibit at The Library Street Collective - it's fabulous!
#ShepardFairey #Detroit #streetart #mural #Detroit is home. A city of growth and inspiration. Every time I'm home I find the reason for my hustle. The People Mover is an automated train that circles the perimeter of Downtown Detroit, connecting most of the major hotels and attractions. It's only 75cents to ride and it's one of the best ways to take pictures of downtown. I could have stayed on all day.

In a run down city like Detroit it's fortunate we're still able to find some beautiful architecture #designs #detriot #michigan A nice place for microbrew and pizza! Head up to the rooftop...and drink! Green Dot Stables. Adorably cute (my cousin laughs at me for calling food cute) sandwiches...mini pulled pork, mini philli steak...everything $3 and under. But don't let that fool u, it can add up. Awesome atmosphere. LOVE their lemon cheesecake!! Crazy used and rare book store in Detroit. 5 floors including the basement. It's incredibly overwhelming but with all these books you'll be able to find something! Books are individually priced and some are pretty spendy so check the inside page before heading to checkout. Lots of street art to be found in the Z Lot. Plus a pretty nice view of downtown Detroit. The great Coney-Dog-Off occurs on Lafayette Blvd in downtown Detroit and this is the clear winner. American Coney Island was once owned by brothers - they had a big fight - and one of them moved next door and opened Lafayette Coney Island, forging a great rivalry! For us, there is no comparison - the American dog is the best! Park in the Art -- very cool. Didn't have time to go to every floor Campus Martius Park occupies two square blocks in the commercial center of Detroit's downtown. In the winter a skating rink occupies the park and in the summer concerts and a variety of outdoor activities are always happening. The park also acts as a crossroads to all the other major downtown activity. Love the ceiling in this theatre... So beautiful We had this duck confit hash with fried egg and Korean BBQ Sauce at about 9am, which should be way too early for such a thing but it was a great dish to share over coffee. Would love to go back and try the duck reuben.
This started out as a weekday breakfast/lunch spot to serve the people working downtown but got so popular that they are opened weekends as well
#Detroit #restaurant #downtown #brunch #breakfast I think that out of all of the places we ate at in Detroit, Chartreuse was our favourite. Chef Doug Hewitt makes vegetables so sexy that you won't even care if you eat any protein. That said, our steak was incredible too.

#architecture Alabama Shakes ~~ Not a bad seat in the house! Hanging out at the GM building. It's like going to a car show. Great view of the river too. We almost skipped this Midtown restaurant after being turned away the night before but I am glad we went back and gave it a second try. This immensely popular eatery seems to always be packed so unless you make a reservation, go soon after they open to at least snag a seat at the bar. We shared the steak tartare and charred octopus with a glass of rose. Our waiter was great, the place is lovely with a laid back atmosphere Don't miss out on seeing this amazing display of true street art and community spirit on a street in Detroit's East Side. It was actually a bit overwhelming and was much more moving than I expected

Holiday lights in Downtown Detroit! 😊 #BVStrove Check out the El Guapo website or Facebook page to figure out where this taco truck is going to be for the day! They have delicious tacos, burritos, and guac and chips for reasonable prices! Love getting food here before class when they are on Wayne State's campus! #localgem I was expecting a nice little art show but what I found was spectacular. All types of people lined the streets waiting to get in. Once in, there was music, dancing, and of course...art. Free drinks as well! Worth a trip to Detroit to see! Old church We needed some comfort food so we headed over to Maccabees in Midtown. I'd say we found it - Potato pancake sandwich filled with corned beef.
