Why in the World Would You Stay Anywhere Else?

Posted Mar 31, 2017
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Not much.
Location: The Detroit Institute of Arts isn't merely good--it's a world-class experience!
I know Detroit well. I'm taken there on business all the time. This place brings you in touch with the old city, the modern city. It's gracious and fun and actually connects you to something meaningful. Go stay at the Sheraton or the Hilton if you want to, but you're missing out on something precious.

If you love history, this is a place to consider.

Enjoyed the historic character of the houses, but we were placed in the 2nd carriage house, which was a bit disappointing. The room was clean, with an excellent bathroom. Our hallway door had a rather large gap around it, making the room rather noisy to those coming and going. We really enjoyed visiting the Detroit Institute of Arts about a block away. I would recommend the stay for those who love history.

The Inn on Ferry

Posted Feb 20, 2017 on Hotels
Loved the location and the outside appearance. We were disappointed that we didn't stay in one of the main homes. We were in a room that looked out at parking lots on each side. Bathroom was small with tiny shower and sink. The walls needed cleaning but I could see that the cleaning people would not see that if they weren't looking from certain angles. Just an FYI for them. The room was not worth the price. The staff and location was.

OK, But Overrated

Posted Jan 30, 2017 on Hotels
The room was clean and well appointed. The decor was true to the hotel's historic theme and included period pieces. The finishes (paint, calk around the pedestal sink, other general maintenance) was worn and in need of updating. Front desk personnel were accommodating, but not cheerful. The front desk telephone line was busy every time I called it, requiring a visit two buildings down for an answer to a simple question. This hotel is ok, but hardly worth the price. Not having stayed in other hotels in the immediate locale, I hope this is not the best the area has to offer.
