Delightful Family Run Hotel
Despite our early arrival our room was ready and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The pool area was well maintained with beautifully clean pool in the centre. A few more colourful plants would have finished it off. The dining room was clean and bright and the food efficiently served. The pork in particular on the night we stayed was delicious.

Room was not clean - numerous spiders/webs, dirty bath. Skirting boards thick wuth dust behind doors and in bathroom. Bed was old and mattress poor. Stayed during warm weather on second floor and the temperature was uncomfortable, even with both windows wide open all night. This also didn't help in the morning when awoken by the glass bins being emptied before 6am right under my window. Lots of noise from room below, but the hotel was full of pensioners and I think the couple in the room below must have been partially deaf, judging by the volume at which they felt it necessary to communicate at. Not the hotel's fault. Staff were all very helpful and polite.

Dog friendly and lovely location.
Great stay. Staff were friendly and food was great. Took the dog at only an extra £5 a night and he got thoroughly spoilt. Will visit again.

Nice hotel in quiet surroundings but close to town
Excellent parking facilities. Easy check-in, food and drinks billed to room for settlement at check-out. Spacious Room. Invigorating En-suite shower cubicle. Flat-screen TV. All you can eat buffet style english breakfast. Modestly priced bar. Friendly staff. I would return here every week if I could!! And last but not least, the room price was incredibly good value for money.

Marvellous mini break
A gem of a hotel behind the downs easily accessed by bus and a perfect base to sightsee other resorts along the Devon coast all staff were very friendly and helpful room extremely comfortable and clean and the breakfast was a lovely selection well presented and cooked the outdoor pool was a bonus really Didn't want to leave

Pleasant hotel in good area
Small but comfortable room with a new TV and fast WiFi. Decent buffet breakfast. On site car parking. Surprised there wasn't a shower but the bath was fine.

Can't fault it for the price!
Very friendly, professional staff and management. Clean and comfortable room and an excellent buffet breakfast. Nice quiet location but only a short walk into town. For the price, I really cant understand what some of the poor reviews and complaints are all about. I'm not easily pleased but I'll certainly stay again next time I'm in the area. Thank you to all at The Anchorage for making my stay a pleasant one.

The staff are brilliant but unfortunately the hotel is not. Reminded us of Fawlty Towers. Would not recommend eating in the evening as very expensive and not particularly good. The standard twin room at £80 was very small, the pillows were the best bit as they were quite plump.

Nice hotel, enthusiastic friendly staff.
Fairly priced for time of year with a spacious family room. Caters more for the elderly clientele but think that is Babbacombe in general, still lovely though. Bar leaves a lot to be desired and entertainment could be better. Would stay again though.

The location was what we were hoping for however when it came to the hotel itself we were very disappointed. The first room we were given was extremely small for 2 people, with mould growing on the walls and damp coming through. This is not acceptable at all, let alone when I'm also 33wks pregnant! Second room the shower wall had collapsed and was covered with plastic. There was no bath so would have either had to wash in this facility or not have washed at all! Third time around we were given a choice out of a twin room (when we booked a double) or a double room smelling like fish and chips. All rooms were very basic. Hair dryer in some but not others, decor extremely tired. Shower was leaking in thrid room. Needed a good Hoover. Breakfast was ok. Advertisement is not what you get. Hotel attracts more elderly people which is fine but made us (24yr old and 29yr old) feel out of place. Although the staff was very helpful and understood our complaints. Even informed us how we were not the first people he had to move that day due to state of rooms. Apparently management have been refusing to fix damages but still booking the rooms out and leaving it to the staff to sort out complaints. Would not go back!! It is not worth the money it cost to stay and would rather stay in a travel lodge.

A little gem
Stayed four nights with husband and two children, staff friendly and helpful room clean and very comfortable a double bed and two singles rather than the usual pull out sofa normally given, room was very large lots of tea and hot chocolate replenished daily. Small pool which was closed for cleaning on one day of our stay on another day full of locals as the pool is hired out so a bit disappointed there. Hotel is very clean in all areas. Breakfast very good also, kids breakfasts same size as adults. Evening entertainment singers and magicians geared towards older clientele but very good. large children's play park just across the road short drive or walk to beach all in all a very enjoyable stay. Many people I spoke to go back every year.

lovely stay
for a three star hotel I think this hotel is good the staff are very good and friendly the place is very clean and tidy food is good and a good selection the bar is well stocked and for a hotel not overpriced excellent. grand children enjoyed the heated pool very much.

Torquay v FC United of Manchester Weekend
On arrival to the reception we were greeted by the manager/night manager/barman, so much reminded me of Manual from Fawlty Towers, with him running around between different roles. The reception area was presented well and the manager was very well mannered, I received my room key and proceeded towards the lift, their was a strong smell of A Care Home which could of been caused by the heating being on full blast everywhere. Inside the hotel area's and bedrooms we felt like it was summer, although in reality it was freezing outside. My single room was ample but the sink unit needs to be replaced, chipboard edge broken off then re painted over looked a mess, the bath and shower was draconian to say the least, rubber hose to fit on taps was impossible to use when your disabled, so it was a strip wash in the sink all weekend! Definitely needs a shower fitted and the bath removed, then the sink in the bedroom would fit in the bathroom giving the room more space. The entertainment area and bar was a fabulous place, very plush and inviting. Breakfast area is the perfect place to dine, full silver service provided and with a large selection of items on the menu. Overall a very good hotel and would recommend and stay again next time in Torquay.
