Close to centre of Plymouth

Posted Apr 20, 2017
Reception staff were polite and friendly. The room was clean but very hot and the bed was very firm. the restaurant food was very disappointing and expensive I would not recommend eating there. At night there was noise outside the hotel and also in the hotel which was disturbing.

Dear Cook, Thank you for your review of our hotel after your recent stay and your positive feedback on our reception staff and room cleanliness. However, please accept my apology for any lapse in standards experienced in our restaurant. I am very disappointed to read this as our chef has been receiving excellent feedback on his food recently. I would like to assure you that I will address this feedback with him to apply any corrective actions necessary. Equally, please accept my apology for the noise disruption from the ambient city noise and your neighbours in the building. I would like to assure you that the noisiness experienced is not a normal problem that we encounter and we sincerely regret any discomfort that you experienced. I trust that this experience did not overly detract from your stay and that we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future. Kind Regards, Trevor Vels | General Manager

Pros: It was quiet but apart from that very mediocre.
Location: Location not good, at top of a hill on a corner , nothing to do nearby. A short walk into town, and when your mobility is not good this is a drawback.
Disappointed in actual position of hotel, thought it would be nearer the centre. To charge car parking at£7.50 per day is not at all good , a cup of tea in bar was charged at £3.00 per head which is extreme . When we booked it through yourselves we didn't expect to pay extra for one of the nights likewise breakfast was charged at £7.50 each per day apart from one day when they charged at £8.95 each why? We felt all in all it was a rip off and we certainly would not be staying there again.

Dear Valerie, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review after your recent stay with us. We sincerely appreciate your feedback but we are very disappointed to see that we clearly did not meet your expectations of our city centre location and value for money. Our daily parking charge is a nominal charge which we levy, well below the average costs for overnight parking within the city. Likewise, our pricng for hot beverages and breakfast is commensurate with 3 and 4 star hotel pricing in our market. I am particulalrly disappointed to see that these issues overshadowed your stay with us but despite your sentiments expressed, we would be delighted to welcome you back for any future visits to our city Kind Regards, Trevor Vels | General Manager

Good position but needs TLC

Posted Apr 13, 2017
Pros: Convenient position, friendly staff who do their best to help.
Cons: Modernisation, especially the heating.
Location: East walk to shops
The hotel is quite central and the rooms are spacious, but is past its best. Unreliable central heating and no heating in the bathrooms, cooking smells in the Reception area, awkward access to the garage - the lift runs out one floor too soon. Some rooms are noisy from the adjacent ring road. Claims to have parking but this limited and difficult to access - usually you have to use Sainsbury's carpark.

Dear Howard, Thank you for your review of our hotel after your recent stay. We are pleased to read your positive comments on our location and our staff's helpfulness. However, we are disappointed to see from your commenst that we did not meet your expectations in other areas of the business. Please accept my apology for your disappointment with our parking, lift access and heating. These are all elements which are unfortunately a design restraint with the building opened in 1987. However, on our decor and facilities, I am able to assure you that we are addressing all areas of the hotel with refurbishment projects during the course of this year. I hope that on a future visit you will consider staying with us again when we will be able to demonstrate these signifiant improvements to you. Kind Regards, Trevor Vels | General Manager

Handy for town

Posted Apr 8, 2017
Pros: Convenient to town with friendly and efficient staff. Has an underground car park
Cons: 10% too expensive. Poor buffet style breakfast, with unappetising hot food reclining under heat lamps. Truly ghastly trough of scrambled eggs.
Location: City centre, sea front and barbican within walking distance
As I would expect for a chain hotel of this type. It has a bleak feel though, as buildings do when they are designed in that brutal Soviet style design

Dear Simon, Thank you very much for your review of our hotel after your recent stay. We sincerely appreciate all of our guest's feedback as it assists us in maintaining consistent standards of service and hospitality. Please accept my apology for not meeting your expectations with our breakfast standards. We are in process of replacing a number of these buffet units which will elevate our overall standards in the short-term. I do hope that this did not overly detract from your enjoyment of the hotel and that we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards, Trevor Vels | General Manager

The hotel is in a fabulous position in town, close to shops, resteraunts and bars. The hotel has a gym. Very friendly and helpful staff. I wouldn't stay at any other hotel in Plymouth.

Convenient location for city meetings

Posted Apr 3, 2017
Pros: Location. Room size. Room service.
Cons: Moving towards tired / dated. An upgrade would be good.
Location: Right in the city centre.
I booked this hotel for convenience to a meeting I had in the city. I used room service in the evening to eat. Did not take breakfast as I needed to leave early. Parking in the underground car park was useful to me. Not an outstanding hotel but it did the job. The room I had was of very good size and mewt my needs. Not blown away but did the job. Evening food was OK, again not over the top but reasonably priced and arrived promptly and hot. Service OK . Woyuld use it again for business whne in the area but not for a family event where I wanted more creature comforts.

Conveniently located older hotel.

Staff were very helpful, room was clean and food (breakfast) was excellent. On the downside parking was limited and the bed was too hard.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to submit such a positive response after your recent stay with us. We sincerely appreciate your superb feedback, particularly on our helpful staff, cleanliness and breakfast. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. However, I have noted your comment on our beds. They can be perceived to be a bit on the hard side as they are very newly purchased but I am sure they will soften marginally as time progresses. We trust that you will stay with us again on your next visit to Plymouth. Kind Regards, Trevor Vels | General Manager
