Near to ferry

Pros: Welcoming and quiet so we could sleep before our early ferry crossing.
Location: After a long drive, we were just pleased to be able to walk and have an early night
Booked this hotel because it was near to the ferry for our crossing to France. Also, we are a family of four so we needed a family room that would accommodate us all.The owners were friendly and welcoming without being over the top. They made sure we had everything we needed. An early breakfast was available, which was a 'take away' breakfast. Liked that it was a hotel with 'green credentials'. Thought that everything had been well thought out - such as an iron and ironing board available on the landing.

A Pleasant Stay

Pros: Clean, nautical decor, breakfast
Cons: For what I paid, I was happy with what was provided
Location: Close to the Hoe, a 10 min walk to the Barbican and likewise the City Centre.
A cosy establishment with a nautical theme. A clean, well maintained room with separate clean modern private facilities and with thoughtful extras such as a fan. Very good breakfast, and as I can't eat eggs I was offered an extra sausage. Also black pudding and hogs pudding were available as breakfast specials. Also available were fresh melon slices and the usual cereals etc.

Basic B&B

Cons: Everything about breakfast could be better! (e.g. watery coffee, little plastic packets of 'marmalade' etc... doughy 'croissants'.)
Location: B&B-land. But we didn't have time to explore area on our one night stay.
Kind staff, comfortable sleep despite ageing, red decor!. Narrow stairs hard to haul luggage up. Very sad breakfast.

Visiting friends in Plymouth

Pros: The location
Cons: Refer to the review.
Location: The location was excellent. Very central for everything but not in a noisy area, five minutes walk from the Hoe.
We didn't go to Plymouth to watch the TV, but didn't realise sets were so small! The oddly coloured painted wallpaper gave the small double room a retro fell. Breakfast was small and not overly nice. Having spent 2 lovely days in Paignton the Rainbow Lodge could not have been much more opposite - we won't be returning.

It was unfortunate that they suffered a water leak whilst we were there but it didn't affect us apart from the noise of people at 6am in the morning. The room was of a high standard of cleanliness, amenities and the bed was very comfortable. We were in their tiny room and I wouldn't want to stay in a room that small again however there are many larger rooms and we will stay there again when we visit Plymouth as long as it is in a larger room.
