Small very smelly old rooms with one sink for toilet & tea & coffee. Horrible old soft flat pillows. Banging doors. No fly screens. Parking difficult & space. Staff friendly & helpful.

Hotel ideally situated for stopping overnight when arriving late on the ferry, rooms all upstairs but comfortable, a fair bit of noise especially from other guests talking loudly when heading to their rooms and when congregating in the common room. Reasonably priced, excellent food in the restaurant.

Confusing check-in process. The Formby itself looks lovely and I got great service from them, but at the Alexandra (where I actually stayed) staff were gruffly blunt, bordering on uncaring. A suggestion may be to advertise the Alexandra as specifically a boarding-house, and the Formby as a short-stay hotel.

Friendly staff who assisted me to check in without hassles. Location is great with shopping district nearby. Communal areas are reasonably clean. Good value for money.

Overall great place to stay, only issue had is the glow of light that comes under the door which makes it hard to get off to sleep.

Great Location but Needs Updating
The facility is in a great location walking distance to the downtown shopping area/restaurants/coffee houses as well as the waterfront. It sits on a very busy street to one side so the room I had received a lot of street noise. In addition, the hotel bar has live entertainment on Friday and Saturday night which you can hear if your room is close to that part. If you are a light sleeper use ear plugs. The room was clean and as pictured. The appearance of the hotel when you walk in is a major disappointment especially as you go upstairs to the hallways. Paint is peeling off the trim work, the walls and trim are badly marred in places. Once you get in the room it is nice. The front entrance and hallways need a major update (dirty carpet on the stairs, paint, wall patches, etc.). Parking is an issue as it is not clear where to park when you arrive. There is a pay parking lot for which you get reimbursed by the hotel if you use but the parking machine did not take credit cards and I had no change. A suggestion would be for the hotel to provide you with a parking pass that you could place on your dashboard since it is a parking lot dedicated to them. Needs to be updated.

Central to town centre and dining venue. Needed to get an early night for early flight next day bit of a problem as venue bit noisy. Able to hear other guests coming and going from rooms banging of doors

On arrival warm welcome of unit and property then hot baked bread arrived and the cheese platter for supper great food for breakfast generous allowance of food. Close to local pub (2 minute walk ) and (5min drive to centre of town) beautiful property to wal around and the rooms were outstanding. The most reliable holiday ever. Thanks for spoiling us. Long spa of a night and showers in the morning. Oh such a comfortable bed. Wonderful break

When we entered the back stairs that we were told to enter they were putrid. The back door was held open by a workers dirty boot and the hall and entry way had dirty smelly workman boots everywhere and the whole hallway stunk. When we first arrived the office person looked at us then turned and left the office. Didn't return for 15 minutes. meanwhile a girl that was cleaning the tables in the dining room kept looking over at us and another man and she could see we were waiting to check in. Finally she came over (partly shaved head) and checked us in. No apologies for keeping us waiting.

It was a convenient and inexpensive place for the night after getting off the Ferry late in the evening. A busy hotel but we slept ok.

Staff were amazing, Restaurant can't fault. We had previously read that there was a DJ on the weekend, but as we were staying Tues/Wed we thought we were in the clear. Unfortunately, we didn't realise (was not informed previously) that we were checking in on the Devonport cup public holiday and that a DJ would be playing that night. The staff did inform us upon checking in that it would be noisy until about 11pm. We were also given the room directly above the DJ/bar and it was loud and our "last quiet night in Tasmania" didn't quite workout. Apart from this, everything else was great. It would have been great if we had received some warning beforehand that a DJ was going to be playing on a non-weekend day.

Central Devonport, great value, nice street, view
Last night of a driving trip around Tasmania. In the centre of Devonport, nice view of the river and Spirit of Tasmania. Walked out to the bluff along the river. Room was perfect for me, Thursday night so no loud music. Parking close and free.

I made a mistake when booking the room, we arrived a day late. The staff went out of their way to assist and found us a room. Thanks so much!! We had dinner in the hotel, the food is first class, the restaurant was packed with locals. The meals are huge.
