Great location

Posted Aug 3, 2011 on Hotels
We stayed overnight at The Redcliff and were given a warm welcome by the owners; they allowed us to book in an hour early, assisted with parking my car in the (very small) car park at the rear, and carried our suitcases up to our room. The double room was pleasant and clean, although small, and had a fabulous sea view; the guesthouse is just yards from the beach at the qieter end of town. My only negative comment would be that the ensuite shower room was dark, shabby and not as clean as I would like it. Also there was nowhere to hang towels, clothes etc in the ensuite. However since we were only staying one night we weren't too bothered. We had a lovely evening out, enjoying the firework display which takes place each Monday during August. Breakfast next morning was well presented, tasted good, and service was friendly and attentive. The Redcliff is situated in a great location, providing a peaceful base but within a 10 minute walk of the lively town centre. Good to have WiFi, TV with freeview, and ample tea and coffee making supplies in the room. Plenty of books & magazines available in the lounge so ideal for a longer stay.

a poor hotel will not return

Posted Mar 27, 2010
We found the guest house of a poor standard. The first night we had to change rooms our bed had a damp patch which was not explained, Each morning the bed was not made the sheets were as we had left them. The milk for making tea was sour

We are sorry this guest had such an unpleasant stay with us. We were called to his room at 11 p.m where we found a damp patch on the bed, we were unable to offer an explanation as the linen was fresh and the bed had been made up that morning, the guest had been in the rooms some hours and it was raining when they arrived and put there bag on the bed, so we surmised that the damp may have come from the bag, but to save the guest embarrassment we didn't offer that as an explanation but offered to change the entire bed for him including the duvet itself, when he refused this offer, insisting that he couldnt possibly stay in the room, we moved him to a completely different room. This room has attracted many compliments from other guests and is rated three star by Visit Britain, before we refurbished it, so would be rated the same if not higher, after renovation and enlargement. The milk jiggers that are in were in use are dated October 2010, they are UHT which inst to everybody's taste but we would have happily supplied fresh milk in jugs if the guest had told us he was unhappy with the milk. The guest rooms are serviced daily and linen is changed according to the Visit England standard requirements for three star, we really wouldn't want to risk our reputation by doing any less, and as a matter of personal pride we strive to do more than the minimum requirements for a three star guesthouse. Once again we are sorry you were unhappy and hope you enjoy your next break away more.

Englisches Landhotel direkt am Meer

Posted May 10, 2011 on Hotels
