Hotel needs to be rehabbed (which is apparently happening next year). Our room was shabby and carpet, filthy. We left after one night of our two night stay because my fiancé heard squeaks coming from our walls/ceiling in the middle of the night. Not sure if it was birds or vermin but we didn’t want to find out. Disappointed in this Relais Chateaux property.

The staff were extremely attentive and accommodating. The grounds were extensive and beautiful. Room was very spacious overlooking the front fountain area.

The location of this hotel is right in the centre of Amarante so very convenient for restaurants, shops and walks. Beautiful and spacious room however there is quite a difference between the classic room and the luxury room. The swimming pool is lovely but not heated ! And the breakfast is a nice buffet with a vast choice! Highly recommend !

A great “Relais & Chateau” with a Michelin Star dining room in the old town beside a river. Close to one of the Durou Valley’s best drives, just ask at the tourist office down the road.

It is a lovely place that is right in the center of a beautiful town. Breakfast had lots of option & was very well done. The beds are very comfortable. There is a beautiful pool as well. One watch out - the church across the street rings its bells every 15 minutes all day until around 11pm. If you like to sleep in, you might want to pick somewhere else.

Our room was adequate, but dingy. Had to crawl under the desk to access the one plug for charging the phone. No face cloth in the bathroom. Staff were competent, but only one was really welcoming. Would have expected more of a Relais and Chateaux hotel. Location is outstanding and the surrounding area is well worth the visit.

Five Star establishment. Very friendly Front Office team. Beautiful room. But best of all a very comfortable bed and firm pillow. Excellent nights sleep. Breakfast the Bacon was crispy and Coffee hot and excellent. The Michelin restaurants food is a dream. I recommend you choose your own wine.

Very warm place. Love the decor. Beautiful view of church across the river. Unfortunatley it rained most of the time and we weren't able to walk around the area. There are several local shops and restaurants nearby.

The hotel is in a beautiful area with river views. The setting and hotel areas are immaculate. The hotel is a little difficult to find--a map with reservations would be helpful. The entrance into the hotel parking area is narrow and requires backing up into an intersection to drive directly perpendicular to the entrance. Breakfast was delicious. Our river view suite was fantastic! I would highly recommend this hotel.

The best place to be during a heat wave
Second time we have stayed here & always a pleasure. Quite an expensive hotel for a small town like Amarante but the quality shines through. Unfortunately the heatwave made it very uncomfortable to venture too far from the Chateaux's pool & air conditioning during our stay but fortunately at Casa Calçada that's not a bad thing at all. We will be back again. Obrigados

Amazing Stay in Amrante
My husband and I spent two nights at the Relais Chateaux Calcada and can not imagine a better time: beautiful hotel, fantastic location, great services and gastronomic food served in addition to all we can ever ask at a hotel of this class. Thank you for a terrific time in Amarante!

Nice romantic quite hotel
Not the best relais&chateaux Hotel that we have stayed in, The staff are really trying to their best to let you feel in a 5 stars property, but the property need an urgent renovation specially in the room. There is a restaurant ( 1 Michelin star ) that we have really expected to be the hi light of our stay in Amarante, and unfortunately the Dinner was a bad experience.not our taste and in comprehension with other high level restaurants the paco de Lago is very disappointing ( we chose the Lobster and the duck for main course).
