Unique Rural Experience in the Wilds of Colorado

Posted Aug 3, 2013
Pros: The one-of-a-kind experience of having the room at the stable, the quiet, peaceful surroundings, and our wonderful hostess...
Location: Nearby river and our hostess knew a good guide for horseback riding, fishing. The Sinclair gas station has smoked BBQ meals (awesome baked potaotes!)
Although we had some trouble finding the place, due to a re-numbering street address project underway, the Sun Canyon Ranch was worth the effort. Our hostess, the owner of the ranch, was very competent and helpful as well as friendly and informative. Since we were travelling with our two small dogs, we chose to stay in what would normally be used as the stable-master's room, built into the stable. The arrangement worked out really well for us. We closed the doors of the immaculate stable, and our dogs had free run, which was very convenient. The room was very clean and had a lovely hand-made quilt on the brass bedstead. There was a TV and a bench and two easy chairs in our room. The bathroom had a decent shower, the usual appointments and a counter with cabinets and a stainless double sink to be used as a sort of half kitchen. If there had been a microwave and a mini-fridge, it would have been perfect... We arrived around 7:30 at night and our host was good enough to make us a pizza for our dinner after our long road trip. We sat watching a beautiful sunset while we ate and relaxed. The next morning, our hostess made us a delicious pancake and egg breakfast with French press coffee and orange juice. She made suggestions on area sight-seeing and we had a lovely, restful day exploring. There are four beautiful horses in the corral and our hostess invited me to accompany her as she prepared their meal and fed them. A very restful, unique experience.
