    Great private vacation spot.

This is a great secluded place to visit. We brought our dogs and they enjoyed vacation as much as we did. The beach was so great, it was like having miles and miles of our own private beach. The house was very spacious with lots of room for everyone. We hope to be back next year. The flies were bad later in the week but after talking to other beach vacationers we heard that the flies were bad in a lot of places this year.

Needs a lot of work...but there are some positives.

I want to be as fair as possible in the review but it was not the best of experiences for myself or any of our family members. We have a large family, 7 adults and 9 kids (2 babies). My mom is in a wheelchair, so this was the first (and pretty big) disappointment. The house is advertised as "Wheelchair accessible". There is a ramp, but before entering the house, there is a large 4" step. The angle of the ramp make it impossible for a ramp to correct this. If you need this as a feature, this house will not work for you. Overall, the condition of the house left us all wondering how often repairs are done, and when they are, who is doing them. There were leaks in the sunroom, and the shower upstairs leaks into the main living area. It was very windy the day we left, and pieces of the roof and siding were blowing off. The indoor floors are outdoor tiles, very heavy duty and rough. There are no area rugs, so dirt and sand, spills, etc are very difficult to clean up and feel like you're walking on clean floors. With small children who are crawling, this presents a problem as it's uncomfortable for them and always finding dirt. Some of the positives we were very much looking forward to were bit disappointing as well. The only wildlife we encountered were mice in the kitchen and lots of ants on counters and floors. The flies are not the fault of the house but really inhibited any fun outside. These are not your standard flies. Google "greenheads". While common in this area, because the house is basically on the marsh where they breed, they are there by the thousands. We all left with the battlescars of fighting these guys off. The bits are painful and kept the kids from wanting to play in the pool. Down by the water, while they seemed to leave the kids alone, they attacked the adults mercilessly. The privateness of the bay was really the biggest highlight. Being able to walk right over to the beach was so nice. Although the beach is not what you typically consider. Just be ready for lots of dead horshoe crabs, and various sea waste. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone, not at least until the house is renovated. Even then, the flies would be enough to keep me away for good.

    Beautiful Isolation

This beach home is comfortable, lots of light and a lovely feeling of being far from those maddening crowds. It is truly a retreat. We rarely saw anyone else on "our" beach. With a view in front of the Delaware Bay and in back, the marshes, we didn't need to leave the house to watch egrets, ospreys and bald eagles. Walking on the beach, in the evening we saw red foxes while we collected shells. Be sure to pack binoculars. Oh! And don't forget bug spray. There are biting flies, but they leave you alone if you use Deet. Good Screening on the porch makes it the ideal spot to gather and chat or nap, with the music of the tides soothing your ears. The floor plan with bedrooms on either end of the house and multiple gathering areas in the center allowed privacy for multiple families. Dishwasher, laundry and well-equipped kitchen were bonuses, too, minimizing clean-up chores. We could have stayed for a month with no more packing than we did for a few days.

the older kids loved searching for shells on the beach

After the tide came in and went back out, the older kids LOVED walking and searching the beach for shells. One evening my grandson caught a baby shark which was very exciting! The adults enjoyed the sunsets and watching the ships off in the distance. It was also awesome to see the dolphins swim by! The neighbors were friendly. The house needs some TLC but was plenty BIG enough. The "boat room" is cute but has a low ceiling over the beds, it is ideal for small children but because it is a separate entrance to the upstairs, and the boat room is at the top of the stairs, an adult will want to be in the boat room with the children and will likely bump their head on the ceiling. Also, the "queen size bed" in the boat room is made up of cushions, not a queen mattress. We enjoyed making s'mores on an outside fire, although some of the plastic chairs are cracked and not usable. Because the water is very dirty, nobody went swimming in the ocean, however, there is a pool. Unfortunately, there was only one canoe and one kayak which we could not use because there were NO paddles. Horseshoe crabs (dead and alive) washed in everyday on the beach, all different sizes, I'd never seen them so big. I understand items wash away and get broken during big storms but if someone cleans up the junk underneath the house and disposes of it, with a little TLC and landscaping, this could be a gorgeous rental property.

An amazing vacation at an amazing home!

We felt honored to visit in your home and share your beautiful space! From the beautiful paintings and art to the spectular lovingly artistic flow that was evident everywhere it is a delightful place! There were many places to go within the home to be with others or to be alone. The closeness to the bay was special and easy for me a grandparent and my 2 year old grandson. The property was clean and well-maintained. We would recommend this property to friends. We would warn people that biting flies are around when it is really hot, although some relief was gotten with bug sprays. We the grandparents especially enjoyed the upper room with its views and beauty.
