Just awful

Posted Oct 16, 2017
Where do I begin... Check-in was very unwelcoming - no offer to help with luggage, no "hello", "welcome", "how are you?" - just simply cold and abrupt; the receptionist wanted to get right back to being on his phone. Now as for the room - super small, extremely firm beds, hardly any towels and anything on TV must be paid for. Now if you are like myself who likes to be in a 20 degree NORMAL tempetured room then you will be sadly out of luck - it was so cold that we had to wear sweaters to bed. I did call front desk to adjust the temp and their response was "it's controlled for the whole building " - no apology or solution was offered. Then comes early morning which we were woken by loud banging - and of course it was quite alarming and frightening to wake up to. I called front desk immediately to see what was going on at 8am and their answer was "construction is being done upstairs". This was not notified to us during check-in and again no resolution to enabling us comfort and peace. At no point during our time did anyone ask if we were enjoying our stay and it became very apparent that we weren't a priority. For checkout, they charged me a pet fee for three nights, when we only stayed there for two nights. I let the receptionist know and she deleted the line for the pet fee for the third night but the total remained the same, I pointed that out to her and had to pull out my calculator and show her that the total didn't add up.

Downtown Hotel, very central

Posted Oct 8, 2017
Got the 1st room but smell like cigarette (fault of customer who smoked in balcony eventhough this is a non-smoking hotel!). Staff gave us different room, no smell, really good. This hotel is very central with a lot of things to enjoy especially 8th Ave imcluding Glenbow Museum, nice resto, lots of good Asian food too.

Great hotel with character

Posted Oct 3, 2017
I had read some reviews and was a little bit nervous about staying here, but the staff instantly put my mind to rest. I was upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite. The room was well appointed modern and clean. If anything was missing, it was instantly replaced by a courteous staff member. My flight was delayed due to a blizzard and they granted me a late check out. This was as pleasant and experience I've had in any four and a half star hotel. The building is older and features unique architecture with character. I can't wait to come back

Cheap Hotel, could use some renovation.

Posted Sep 25, 2017
Pros: Location. Right in downtown
Cons: Interiors, mattress, carpet
Location: Its right in Calgary downtown. Local transport is right around the clock.
Great location. The hotel was cheaper. Looks very old, interiors are not in best shape.

I like the location.

Posted Sep 22, 2017
Pros: That friendly lady at the restaurant.
Cons: Maybe parking, only if you were able to.
Location: I went shopping down Stephen's Avenue, and our favorite coffee (Tim's) was within walking distance.
The location was nice. For the function we were in the city for, it was great. And downtown, close to shopping and the downtown.

Good Morning Gerry, Thank you for the kind words regarding your recent trip to Calgary. Our staff members across all departments go to great lengths to provide a hospitable stay. I'm glad you were able to beat the recent cold snap we've had with a coffee from Tims as you got some shopping done at The Core. I'm sure it was a nice feeling to have these amenities in such close proximity. We hope to see you again soon.

Stayed one night in September 2017. The hotel had an excellent central location that was walking distance to good restaurants and bars in the area. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful.

Old and needs a facelift!

Posted Sep 22, 2017
Pros: Front desk staff were pleasant and efficient. Location was appropriate.
Cons: It is a dark hotel with a noisy Hvac system across the road on the front and a dark alley on the back. The room lights were dim to say the least.
Location: Good location for the Globe theatre and small restaurants. A few blocks to the popular Steven's Ave.
I stayed 3 nights. The onsite restaurant was not open for Supper and the only option was a dark 'pub' that was accessed down a long hallway, had VLT's and more of a 'tavern' feel rather than a place where I would choose to eat a supper - so I didn't. I ended up leaving the hotel and eating off site. The room was clean in most cases but the hair on the bathroom sink was a turnoff!! Good shower though!!! It simply an old hotel and needs an upgrade to match the prices when compared to other hotels in the area.
