An experience I will not repeat

Posted Jul 26, 2017
Cons: The overall maintenance of this property should be the first priority.
Location: The Songbird's Museum was a special treat that will not be forgotten.
Driving up to the Choo Choo, I immediately noticed that there were several vacant and derelict buildings surrounding the property. Upon arrival, the front desk staff greeted me warmly and quickly checked me in. She provided a map of the property and explained that there were microwaves available for guest use in the lounge area of the indoor pool as there were not microwaves in the rooms. She stated that the rooms did have refrigerators but mine did not. She gave us information about the restaurants on property and nearby. For what I paid for the Pullman Train Car, I would have expected not to find hairs stuck to the back of the bathroom door, a combination of mold/mildew and dirt caked into the crevasses around the windows, exhaust fan and ceiling in the bathroom; beyond threadbare wear in the carpet; a large, heart-shaped burn mark in the carpet in front of the television; several pieces of electrical tape (poorly) holding together the broken slat of the window blinds next to the bed, etc. I expected the room to be old and old-fashioned but it could have been better maintained and much cleaner. The Songbird's Museum, which was the main reason for my visit to Chattanooga was actually on the property. The downtown area was within walking distance and other attractions and historical sites were a short drive away. It is obvious that Chattanooga is going through a revitalization period. Hopefully, the city and historical society will consider adding the Choo Choo to the plan

We are so very sorry that your stay wasn't pleasant. I will make sure that our team knows about the issues you had with your stay. The Chattanooga Choo Choo is currently under renovation, but with that the train cars have not yet been started. I do sincerely apologize for the condition of the hotel at this time.

Historic hotel, great staff

Posted Jul 15, 2017
Really enjoyed the stay, but if you're looking for a true-to-the-era hotel, this isn't it. The lobby is an amazing structure built in the early 1900s, but the furniture and trappings have a more 1950ish feel. The train cars are amazing, but they aren't well kept. The indoor pool is outstanding, but the water feature wasn't functioning during our stay. The staff were always extremely helpful, and the courtyard is beautiful. There is a bocce ball field, oversized Jenga and checkers, as well as corn hole to stay busy. The on-site restaurant, Frothy Monkey, was outstanding! The food, service and staff were really, really great.over all, the experience was good, and though I'd stop in to see if the feel of the hotel has changed, I don't think I'd stay there again. And that makes me sad.

Thank you for staying with us. We are currently undergoing renovations for the entire hotel, so there are many changes happening in the near future. I apologize that we have taken out the water feature for the indoor pool area. Thank you so very much for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed your stay.

Our experience was a good one the staff was very friendly and helpful room was clean and the restaurant's were great. Our experience was enough for us to recommend to anyone and for those wanting that little something extra we recommend trying out one of the rail cars.

Noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in.

Posted Jun 20, 2017 on Hotels
This hotel is "historic" which means it was older and not insultated well at all from doors slamming and people nearby talking. My husband, who usually is able to sleep wherever, was miserable after the second night because he had not been able to sleep. My son can usually sleep through anything and people yelling in the hallway at 1:30 AM, followed by door slamming along the hall all thorough the night, continually woke him up. We were moved to a "quieter hallway" after 2:30 AM just to be woken up there early in the morning by families with children. The final night we stayed was quiet, but that morning around 7 AM a man and his children were all yelling in the hallway about the pool. This was definitely a combination of consistently being surrounded by inconsiderate hotel guests combined with extremely thin walls. The staff I encountered were all pleasant, but we were all exhausted to a point of just wanting to go home and cancel our plans after not being able to sleep three nights in a row. Additionally, the toilet had some brown substance on the toilet seat in the first room when we moved in. The air conditioners work really well but are also very loud. The indoor pool room is unbearable due to the chemical smell. I heard another guest that I did not know refer to it as a "torture chamber." Occasionally the air outside on the property and in the neighborhood smelled strongly of sewer. We will not return.

Chattanooga Choo Choo Takes You Back in Time

Posted Jun 9, 2017 on Hotels
This is not the place to stay if you are looking for a 4 star hotel experience, but if you are willing to step back in time and enjoy the era, then this will be a memorable trip for you. My 11 year old daughter was so excited to stay in an actual train car. The courtyard was fantastic and had lots of games to play. The indoor pool did need some work, but in the eyes of an 11 year old, it was fantastic. Do not miss The Frothy Monkey. It was by far the best breakfast I have had in a long time.

very disappointed

Posted Jun 5, 2017
Pros: It was easy to find
Location: Free electric bus to the downtown area but hotel was pushing the paid trolley tour and did not let you know about the options
We stayed in the train car room and it was dirty, dated, and smelled of mold. Fiberglass in the tub was cracked and homeless people were sleeping in the garden right outside the room. Paid extra to stay in the train and will never come here again.

I'm so very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. We are currently undergoing renovations and the train car rooms are next. I will get with our staff about making sure to let guests know of their transportation options. The Trolley Hop just opened and is based inside our hotel, which is why we are promoting it. We do have ambassadors that here around the clock roaming the property, however our property is open to the public. I do hope you reconsider coming back once renovations are complete.
