The location is very convenient. It is an easy pickup location for Uber. Or, you can walk to downtown without issue. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are redone, but fairly small. The floors are concrete. There isn't a lot of furniture. The rooms are cozy and very warm. The setup works very well for couples. Overall, we found a lot of value, between the location, price, and amenities. This place is a worthy stay for one or two people. The room setup and experience may be different for a larger group.

Pros: The bathrobes were warm and soft.
Cons: They could provide shuttle service to downtown attractions.
The hotel was nice and clean. The food was very good though a tad pricey. I liked the minimalist atmosphere.

Clean rooms with a welcoming touch (like bathrobes) are our favorite way to make sure our guests feel at home. Thank you for the feedback about shuttle service. It's something we're looking into because we want exploring the city to be a breeze. When the weather is nice our Detroit Bike rentals are another wonderful way to explore! We hope a return trip is on the horizon because we'd love to welcome you back.

Perfect weekend getwaway!

Posted Nov 6, 2017
My husband and I recently visited Detroit for the weekend, and Trumball & Porter was the perfect base. Super close to Batch Brewery, Mudgie's and Lady of the House, we could also walk downtown and the riverfront. The renovated space is clean, and I loved the minimalist, modern aethestic. We had breakfast every morning at the Red Dunn, and the service and food was fantastic. The only drawback? Unfortunately the rooms aren't soundproof so if you're a light sleeper, you may want to pack your earplugs! Definitely consider this hotel if you're visiting the Detroit area and want a unique urban space!

We love knowing we were the perfect stepping out point for your Detroit getaway. With so much to see and do, often the hardest part is choosing. We're thrilled you loved our new urban, modern style. Whenever possible we've sourced goods from local artisans, and we love offering a piece of the city with every stay. Thanks for your feedback about the soundproofing. We're sharing this with our management team because we think getting a great night's sleep is essential!

Overall we loved it

Posted Oct 1, 2017 on Hotels
Really nice hotel, needed some touch ups but overall we were really pleased. The lobby area smelt like old sewer lines. The room did not smell though, so it wasn't a big deal. Restaurant connected was really good, too.

Cons: Bar staff. Slow service.
Decent stay for one night after a concert. Far walk from downtown if the weather is not good. Nice check in staff.

One Rude Staff Member Ruins a Trip

Posted Sep 14, 2017
Pros: location, room design
Cons: train managers to think about the situation of the guest before they act
Location: near t-stop, easy access to Cambridge and Boston
I invited my wife out to extend a business trip by a few days, and planned on one full day at this property, and one at the Marriott Envoy. While my wife slept after her flight, I searched for a quiet place in the hotel in which to do a bit of work. Because there is music throughout the property, this is not an easy task. I did find a small conference room (8 seats) in the meeting room section of the property. The room was open, unlocked, and lit. I sat down at the desk and worked, without seeing anyone in the area (there were no functions in any of the rooms as it was a Saturday.) . After about 90 minutes, two ladies showed up and asked if I had "rented this room?" I replied that I had not, but could not find a quiet space. Without posting the entire conversation, I was directed to leave the room immediately, and that the LOBBY was considered the business center, and I could sit in the lobby (between the hotel entrance and the registration desk) for my business center use. As the CEO of a patient focused, satisfaction driven organization, I hope my team never treats any patient, family, or other customer as if they are an intruder, or had somehow stolen the use of a room. In my 25 years of business travel, I have never encountered someone so rude, and so unconcerned with the needs of a customer. One other hotel staff member did issue a whispered apology, but they were clearly not authorized to do so.

Since it was a holiday weekend and a lot going on in Detroit there weren't a lot of rooms available in the area. The room at Trumbull & Porter was nice. As many have stated the floors are bare concrete, slippers were provided which made this a non-issue. Lots of shelf space in the bathroom which was good. The breakfast in the restaurant was very good. It was nice to get a late check out since our flight was later in the day.
