Elegant

Posted Aug 18, 2017
Pros: This is one of the most elegant hotels I have ever been to. The Hot Brown sandwich is outstanding and the drinks are mixed with perfection.
Cons: Don't change a thing!
Location: Short walk to many great sites and sounds.
The staff was very friendly and helpful; the room was spacious and comfortable.

Beautiful Historic Hotel

Posted Aug 11, 2017
Pros: It's character and history, the rooms were very comfortable and very nicely kept! The staff was very helpful finding us cabs and reservations.
Location: Location was central to most restaurants. You had to find transportation to shopping it was too far to walk. The visitors bureau was several blocks
Hotel is beautiful! All staff were very pleasant and helpful! Food at hotel restaurant was great. Try the Hot Brown and the Derby pie! Second time we stayed there! Staff go out of their way to help you!

Pros: Beautiful lobby, architectural detail, location, historic character.
Cons: Update rooms or invest in greater historic detail/decor throughout the hotel.
Location: Great entertainment and dining options
Beautiful lobby with clean rooms. Courteous front desk staff, but doormen tended to be distracted with personal conversations and interests outside of guests.

Very comfortable for a single woman.

Posted Jul 13, 2017
Pros: Old, southern elegance.
Cons: Room thermostat didn't work work; I was chilly, but blankets were sent up to me. Bathtub had an issue and "engineer" came up immediately and fixed it
Location: Spent all of my vacation time at a workshop at the nearby University of Louisville. Bell captain always helped with taxis or UBER.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bar/restaurant was lovely, and the food very good. I had a couple of minor issues regarding comfort in my room and the staff was responsive.

Musty

Posted Jul 13, 2017
Pros: The lobby was beautiful and the bar and restaurant staff were exceptionally gracious.
Cons: The guest rooms need freshening, but particularly something needs to be done about the musty smell. Also, the cleaning could have been better.
Location: The location was a negative. It's not a good neighborhood for walking to restaurants, attractions, etc.
I like historic hotels and often choose them. This is one of the few times when the bedroom in an older hotel was so musty that it made being in the room unpleasant. Otherwise, my experience at the Brown was mixed. The room was shabby, but the bed was very comfortable. The staff was sometimes very efficient and pleasant and sometimes really lax. Overall, I probably wouldn't stay at the Brown Hotel again. There was too much wrong with my experience and I was glad to leave.

Beautiful commons areas, unexceptional rooms.

Posted Jul 5, 2017
Pros: The common areas, the restaurants, the gift shop on the first floor is amazing.
Cons: Housekeeping needs to be better organized! Theres no excuse for the poor cleaning service we received.
Location: Location is not great. It's a fair walk down towards the river where Museum Row is, and to Nulu. It's central and close to the UL Med School though.
The lobby, open bar area and common areas of the hotel are simply gorgeous. The rooms however are pretty disappointing. Ours had a faint smell of smoke, the furniture and carpet had a very worn look to it, and the bathroom was really poor for a hotel of this reputation. The faucet in our bath/shower combo was cockeyed, and not sealed properly. The bath tub was old and very uncomfortable. It was impossible to get a decent temperature out of the shower, it was either very hot or very cold. The coffee set ups were like something you'd find in a Motel 6, very cheap. Although the staff was very nice, they didn't seem very well organized. 3 nights out of our 5 night stay, our room wasn't cleaned when we returned after being gone for 5-7 hours, and we had to request maid service. Twice the maid never showed, I had to hunt down a maid cart to grab clean towels. By the 3rd time we had to ask for the hotel manager to get our room cleaned. It was really weird. The walls are not well insulated, sound travels to the point where I could hear conversation in the next room. Overall, the rooms felt slightly above a Motel 6, while the lobby and common areas were much more elegant. We really enjoyed the bar area seating and menu. We tried the famous Hot Brown, wow, delicious but very rich. The service was very good, and friendly. The valets were also friendly, although they didn't open my door, which again seemed odd for a 4 diamond property. The location is ok.
