Modern Hotel in Downtown PDX

Posted Aug 23, 2017
Pros: Location
Location: Restaurants, shopping, PSU, Saturday Farmers Market, Saturday/Sunday PDX Market by the Waterfront, PDX Waterfront, and Green Zebra - grocery store.
I was able to get an early check-in. The room was clean and nicely decorated. I liked being able to open the windows to let in air. The hotel was right on the bus and train route. It wasn't loud at all. The location was perfect. Will definitely be staying there again.

Modern Luxury where water is "a one time amenity"

Posted Aug 22, 2017
Pros: dog friendly, convenient location, comfortable pillows, beds, rooms. Valet and bellmen were super friendly. Interior was nice (except for hallways)
Cons: Clean the rooms when asked, hallway carpets were abhorrent, daily amenity charge is outrageous given that there were no free amenities provided
Location: Great parks nearby great for dog walking. Close to Portland Art Museum. Powells was about a 15 minute walk away. Waterfront about a 10 minute walk
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Modera, however, I left sour after asking (on the 2nd day) if the inexpensive bedside water could be replenished and was told that "water is a one time amenity" and I was welcome to purchase the $4 or $6 water in the mini bar or gift shop. Then upon checkout we were hit with an outrageous daily amenity fee. . .NO FREE AMENITIES ARE PROVIDED. What's that charge for??? WE DIDN'T EVEN GET OUR ROOM CLEANED! And we paid a pet fee and parking charges (that was super expensive). Given what we paid for the stay, I would think they could throw in an additional bottle of water in the mornings. Otherwise, the valet and bellmen were fantastic (front desk staff was hit or miss) and the room was comfortable. Cleaning the carpets in the hallway would go a long way toward improving the aesthetics of the interior. When you get off the elevator and see stains, crumbs, and missing pieces of carpet you question how nice of a hotel it really is. Also, we put our housekeeping button on, were gone all day and our room was not cleaned. Was happy that hotel was dog friendly, yet rooms were really nice and didn't smell like dog. Restaurant next door also allowed dogs for patio dining. Hotel was in good location, walk-able to downtown, and local points of interest.

Trendy hotel

Posted Aug 22, 2017
Pros: Stylish, trendy, clean, helpful staff
Cons: Room smelled faintly of smoke
Location: Location is right near the MAX, and Higgins is two blocks away.
Trendy, stylish hotel with a superb staff. Rooms are a little small but that was entirely acceptable. Room smelled faintly of smoke, staff said they'd make a note for maintenance. Final rub is location-- it's near a cluster of other hotels, but at least for our purposes, location seemed to be a few blocks off the main drag. Not a big deal but something to be aware of if you prefer convenience above all else.

Came for a visit and stayed for awhile. The location was great. We could either walk or take public transportation to anywhere in the city.

A very nice place very a quality staff. Loved it. It was within walking distance to many restaurants and even Powell's Books (about 15mins). The restaurant was terrific with a very nice courtyard.

Aesthetically average but great customer service

Posted Jul 31, 2017
Pros: Customer service was really outstanding.
Cons: Might want to replace the carpets and update some of the other finishes of the hotel.
Location: The location is just okay... not in the happening part of town east of the river but we still found some restaurants to try nearby.
The interior of the hotel itself is dated, worn, and smelled very odd in spots. The customer service was really great. The area isn't the most happening part of town but there are a handful of good restaurants and bars in walking distance and the rail system stops very close to the hotel. Parking is expensive at $38 per night and the gym is not on property but is very close by (ultimately not a big deal).

Shannon, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your recent stay at Hotel Modera. We listen to what our guests are telling us. It allows us to see what is working and know where we need to improve. Despite the buildings limitations it is great to hear that the staff provided great customer service and we hope that will bring you back to the hotel next time you are in Portland.

No option to sellf park and access car. 38 dollars a night is pricey.

Stanley, Thank you for choosing Hotel Modera during your last visit to Portland and for taking the time to leave a review. The $38 dollars does seem expensive but it is a competitive rate for downtown Portland. The Modera Package offered by Expedia is a great value and has the valet parking included. I would recommend booking this next time you are in town, we hope to see you again!
