Good location and clean, but.....

Posted Nov 28, 2017
Pros: It was clean. That is all.
Cons: Staff understanding of what a guest instructed.
Location: You must park on the street if you do not use the Valet service. The old town street is nice.
Was so excited to get to Berkeley Hotel. It was clean and decor in good taste. There is no vent in the bathroom, as it is an old building, but the steam from shower is thick and water adheres to the ceiling. What was so disappointing is the room service. We ordered two club sandwiches at the bar to take to our room. That is all we ordered and specifically stated that we would come and get it. I went to the room to tell my husband. He left to go down and get it. He said he would wait. While he was gone, the man from the bar brought it to the room. Two sandwiches, two glasses of ice water, silverware and condiments. My husband had not even returned to the room, but was waiting for it. We specifically did not want room service and this was known by the man at the bar. We would have been happy to just have it bagged! The fee charged to our room was $37.74. Two club sandwiches! We spent time to go down and order and waited to get it. He brought it while one was waiting at the bar to get it! When told at check out about this, it was Not taken off the bill. Not what a good Hotel would do. It was their error, I would never go back.

Mixed Bag

Posted Nov 27, 2017
Pros: Location. We could walk everywhere. Great restaurants, museums.
Cons: The front desk person should be paying closer attention. We called down there and no one answered.
Location: Poe Museum was excellent! St. John's Episcopal Church was great -where Patrick Henry spoke.
When we checked in we were put on floor 2, but we were not told it was the dog/pet floor. We were awakened twice in the middle of the night by barking dogs. Lost a lot of sleep. Next day we got a room on the 5th floor that was smaller but had a "terrace". A machine from a large building in back makes constant loud, annoying noise. The front desk is spotty. The bed was comfortable and the room had nice furniture. Good restaurant.

Downtown Richmond

Beds were comfortable, room was clean, no water pressure, water in shower rarely hot. Parking with hotel is expensive so would have to drive around to find a parking space on the street.

Good location

Posted Nov 26, 2017
Cons: Bathroom bars for easier and safer access to tub and shower. Better choices of pillows.
Staff was helpful from check-in to check-out. Pleasant. Room was comfortable, but a little dated. Should have bars in bathroom to help getting in and out of shower. Hotel is in excellent location, walking distance to good restaurants and gentrifying old neighborhood.

Close to restaurants and downtown. Hard to park

Posted Nov 19, 2017
Pros: It was beautiful with character.
Cons: The parking and unloading was a problem but the valet was excellent.
Location: Great restaurants and we enjoyed the canal ride and history.
We were only there for a night. We found the staff helpful. They recommended things to do and gave directions.

Great hotel in Shockoe Slip!

Posted Nov 9, 2017
We love staying here whenever we come back to Richmond ever since we stayed here for our wedding night five years ago. It's a great cozy hotel with spacious and clean balcony rooms. Nothing beats having a balcony room overlooking the cobblestone street out front. For the price, it's a great value and we recommend it to anyone.
