Lower Prices, But a Risky Choice

Posted Sep 17, 2017
Pros: Proximity to downtown Salt Lake City, room cleanliness and comfort
Cons: Safety of the facility, staff empowerment, internet service
Location: The hotel is located in a marginal part of Salt Lake City - not the worst, but not the best. Near many destinations and restaurants.
Metropolitan Inn’s prices are low for downtown Salt Lake. My room was clean and comfortable. But I stayed here six nights, and have some warnings. I found the staff to be polite, but they were mostly young and seemed inexperienced. When I reported that my room had no Internet service, the staff was did not assist with the problem, but left me to call their service provider’s technical support. In the end, it turned out to be their equipment, not mine, but I was without Internet for my entire stay. I had concerns about the hotel's safety. The grounding prong on the microwave plug had been snipped off so it would fit the nearby two-prong extension cord. And I found on at least two nights during my stay that the stairwell lighting was off, including the “Exit” sign, leaving the stairway dark and unsafe. The complimentary breakfast was minimal, necessitating that I go elsewhere to eat. And the ice machine had no ice, and looked like it hadn't for a long time. The internet issues were a deal-breaker for me, and it required a conversation with the hotel owner after I returned home to get a small reduction on my bill. The other problem is that Metropolitan double-charged my credit card, providing me another headache to resolve. I will not stay at Metropolitan Inn again. Although it needs some repair, the facility is not bad. But as a patron, you are basically on your own if something goes wrong. And the corners cut on safety made any savings from staying here a costly gamble.

Last minute reservation.

Posted Sep 17, 2017
This was the only place I could find close to where I needed to be early the next morning. The room appeared clean, the bed had a plastic protector pad on it, the tile in the bathroom was very old and PAINTED! The floor was uneven and there are water stains on the ceiling and I was on the third floor. Oh well, the tempur pedic bed was comfortable.

Below average cheap hotel

Posted Sep 16, 2017
Very outdated hotel in the lower-end area of downtown. Looks like they are beginning some renovations -- new beds and tv's -- but they have a long way to go.

Close to everything with comfy beds.

Posted Sep 15, 2017
Pros: Centrally located
Cons: decor of rooms -- but really not a big deal.
Location: Close to shops, temple square, restaurants.. all walking distance.
The Metropolitan was a nice little hotel for a great price. The beds were very comfy. Room was clean. The front desk staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I'd stay here again! They also just got new TVs in the rooms, so that was cool. Rooms are a little outdated, but it looks like they are improving those things (beds, TV..) It was a steal of a price, so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Definitely exceeded my expectations!

Cheap motel in downtown

Posted Sep 11, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Leaking ceiling
Location: I was able to walk to a local park, Trader Joe's, and a public library.
I booked a room at the Metropolitan Inn during my stay in SLC because it was the cheapest rate in the downtown area. The staff were very polite to deal with, however, they had a company cleaning some rooms' carpets and the carpet cleaners were not very respectful, unnecessarily blocking walkways and kicking in room doors instead of setting things down to open them with their hands. The room didn't seem unclean in any way, but the infrastructure itself was dated and in need of repair, I don't just mean that they have CRT TVs, but the room above me's bathroom leaked down through the doorway of my room's bathroom. They certainly could due with some renovation to fix such a serious issue as that. I slept fine and enjoyed the location, but decided to upgrade to a nicer hotel in the area the next night.

Decent hotel, I expected better.

Posted Sep 4, 2017
Pros: Hmmm, not much.
Cons: Internet service and TV channels and reception. I was spent four nights and collectively, I might have had two hours of internet service.
Location: Chevron gas station next door but, very limited in what it has to offer. Jack's has the best burgers!! That was the highlight of my location.
Experience was fair at best. I realize I stayed at a low budget hotel, but it was to include internet and a TV for the price. Motel 6 does a better job! Well internet might have worked for a total of two hours during a 4 night stay. No amount of complaining yielded any satisfactory resolution. Even sitting in the lobby instead of the privacy of my room made internet service any better. TV receptionwas just awful, stations were fuzzy and very limited. After spending all day at conference seminar at the Salt Palace, one expects to get back to ones room to surf the net or watch a decent movie on TV, nope! This is an okay hotel if you all you need is a bed to sleep in, that's all you get for the price. Electrical outlet in the bathroom did not support a normal appliance such as a curling iron. I had to use the surge protector behind the TV to fix my hair in the morning and then run into the bathroom to use the mirror. Good grief! Never again! I plan on being back in SLC in February and I am already looking into better accommodations.

Metropolitan allure

Posted Sep 3, 2017
Location: We enjoy antiquing and found many cool, antique stores in the vicinity...but especially in the Murray area (south of downtown).
We were very impressed with this hotel and its staff..! We stayed on the third floor and enjoyed the comfort of the room and clean pool; the pool gate had a bit of a tricky latch mechanism, but overall, no complaints. The young woman at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating and even brought fresh towels to us when we asked for more. The hotel is within walking distance of shops and restaurants downtown. Very pleasant stay--wonderful, boho-ish like atmosphere.

Dated motel, but good beds. Rooms were clean. There was a mix up on my arrival date, but the staff took care of it. Good wifi.
