Pros: It was very cute and conveniently located
Cons: Fridges in the rooms would seem a must in today's time, especially for longer stays given that we are in Texas.
Location: Excellent options for dining and entertainment all within walking distance.
Stayed here with my husband on business. The hotel is beautiful. There were some minor issues, but nothing that ruined our stay as such - there was no fridge in the room, which was a disclaimer when booking the room, but I find this odd nowadays not to have one. Some elements of the room were tired - which others might take issue with, it wasn't an issue for us so much, simply something you expect with a historic hotel. The location was great - right in the middle of San Antonio near the Alamo, the riverwalk, the convention center and plenty of entertaintment/dining.

Texas History in a luxurious setting.

Posted Nov 13, 2017
Pros: It's history.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: In my opinion, the Menger provides the best location to absorb what San Antonio means to Texans.
The Menger Hotel's walls ooze Texas History and it's location is superb. The sacred Alamo and the famous Riverwalk are just a few steps from the hotel's door.......and Theodore Roosevelt and his Roughriders once stayed there. I figured, if the Menger was good enough for Teddy, it was certainly good enough for me. I was not disappointed.

You get to pick your view if you call early enough

Posted Nov 12, 2017
Pros: I liked the garden area where you could go out and sit on rocking chairs.
Cons: There should be a sign by the first floor elevator telling you to hold the button for a few seconds.
Location: The laser light show at the big catheral a few blocks away is not to be missed.
The beds and pillows were very comfortable and I think that is what gave us a good nights sleep.

Older Hotel (needs some updates)

Posted Nov 5, 2017
Pros: Really good location.
Cons: Plaumbing and electrical
Location: This place is literally across from the Alamo and less than a minute from the River Walk
It was a very nice older hotel in a great location. The hotel staff was not the easiest to work with. When we arrived early (1:00) we were told check in time was 3:00. They said they'd call me when the room was ready. When I checked back with them at 3:15 it still wasn't ready. I asked to have the outlets in a desk lamp checked because I was trying to charge my electronics and couldn't get the receptacles to stay on. I was told they were fixed, which they weren't. I actually like the charm of older hotels but the shower was a little dangerous. The hot and cold valves in the shower have never been updated with an anti-scalding valve. When I got in the shower, I'd get the water temperature to what I thought worked but then once I got in the shower the temperature kept jumping from tepid to REALLY hot. Not a comfortable feeling. I think there is a newer part of the hotel and hopefully they've updated that part.

Vintage, fully renovated hotel next to the Alamo.

Posted Oct 23, 2017
Location: Right next to the Alamo and only 1.5 blocks from a key location along the Riverwalk. Great location!
I was given a newly renovated room in the original section, a quaint space with excellent AC, a comfy bed, and fine amenities. Staff were knowledgable and helpful, and the location was excellent. It's worth noting I got a much better price than colleagues staying a nearby hotel where our conference was held, and only required a short 10' walk along the Riverwalk to get there. I fully recommend.

Great location but hotel rooms need some updates

Posted Oct 21, 2017
Pros: location, location location... across the street from the Alamo and close to Riverwalk and shops and restaurants. Also next door to RiverCenter mall.
Cons: Need some updating in rooms with paint, furniture repair, door veneer repair.. also would be helpful if smoking was not allowed in front of the hotel.
Location: this hotel is in an ideal location close to Alamo, riverwalk, river center mall, shops and restaurants, Via public trolley and other tour buses.
Great location across the street from the Alamo. It's a very old historic hotel and gets a lot of use. This heavy use is showing in the rooms where they need to do some painting and furniture repair. Carpet on stairs didn't look like it was vacuumed the whole 4 days we were there. Several homeless persons hanging out on steps during the day and lots of smokers out front. It's annoying to have to walk in and out around the smokers. Great breakfast buffet and friendly valet staff. Just needs some TLC to make it sparkle.

Relatively a bad experience.

Posted Oct 18, 2017
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Noise
Location: Location of the hotel is nice. Not the location of my room though.
When I first checked in I had trouble opening up the door for my room. I went down and spoke to a staff. Staff asked one of the security guards to go up with me to help me open the door. This one security guard sitting on a chair complained to the staff "Go up for what?" with a growling face. Not in a comfortable situation between the two.. Went up, turns out I am supposed to pull up the doorknob upwards.. My room was located in a very weird position where it was located very close to one of the elevators.. Every time an elevator arrives at my floor I can clearly hear the "ding" sound, giving me a hard time to fall asleep.. plus everytime someone passes by my room I can hear them very clearly. Not what I expected for the price I paid for. I honestly would have stayed in a nicer hotel that is closer to my business of this trip. The word this hotel uses to advertise: "historic" is not really worth the money in my honest opinion. The staffs are super nice.. not the big lazy security guard there though..
