Gem in the Gaslamp Quarter

Posted Dec 12, 2017
Beautiful, older hotel in the historic district of San Diego. Well refurbished. Great breakfast on the roof. WiFi is in the rooms work great. The staff was very helpful with late checkout and advice for things to see in the area.

Good location but a few things to improve on...

Posted Dec 4, 2017
Hotel itself is pretty nice. The staff were friendly and it's walking distance to lots of places to eat. Parking at the hotel is expensive, so just find yourself another place to park if you don't mind walking a block or so. I thought I was meant to get something for this being a VIP+ but I didn't so don't expect this. Also breakfast was pretty lacklustre. We looked at it and walked out and went to a restaurant down the street.

Very convenient & close to all the fun!

Posted Dec 1, 2017
Pros: Location, location, location. The suites are unique and the beds are comfortable. The baths are not spacious, but they're sufficient.
Cons: Start the breakfast session at 6:30, perhaps??
Location: An endless selection of shopping, restaurants and bars nearby; you'll find whatever you're looking for!
I've stayed here on two separate trips in November, and loved each of the suites that I stayed in! Comfortable and charming - a great feel to the place! I didn't experience any issues with street noise, but I stayed in the middle of the week on both occasions. It has a very 'homey' atmosphere, and front desk staff is always congenial and as helpful as could be. Their rooftop breakfast is fairly minimal, and it doesn't start until 7 am, but the view from the roof is absolutely awesome! It's my favorite place to stay anywhere downtown!

Don’t expect to sleep

Posted Nov 27, 2017
I stayed in the room 209 for one night. The room was SUPER noisy due to the nearby bars (I think one bar is right underneath the hotel). I felt like the band was playing in my room! The situation was particularly bad during 10 pm to 3 am. Me and my wife couldn’t get ANY sleep before the next day’s trip to San Diego zoo. We used ear plugs and covered our heads with pillows in the bed, but still couldn’t block the super loud noise. The bed was even vibrating due to the bass of the bar music... Staying in the Gaslamp Plaza Suites was a total mistake for our Thanksgiving holiday trip to SD. I blamed myself so hard for not doing enough research on the reviews of this hotel. I hope my message can help to prevent other people to have the same bad experience. If you want to find a hotel in SD to rest in the night, Gaslamp Plaza Suites is not your choice. Believe me. The breakfast was on the low end. You get plain toast, British muffin, cereal, some drinks. That’s it. The rooftop area has very nice view though.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that you were so disturbed by the noise. Next time we could offer you a room on the inside of the building.

Cool, restored old building

Posted Nov 20, 2017
I knew the Gaslamp Plaza was in an old part of the city which was fine. They've done a nice job of restoring it to be a modern hotel. Everything worked fine and the staff was as nice as could be. Things I didn't like: I'm not used to paying for valet parking every night but there wasn't much choice. Any other parking lot nearby would have cost as much or more. The rooftop breakfast was fine for free but hey, how about adding a waffle maker? We asked for a high floor away from the street but that didn't help to lessen the noise from nearby bars. Apparently this is in a popular nighttime area. If you plan to stay out late you'll have no problem here.

Good location

Good location, spotlessly clean, and a helpful, friendly staff. Being an older hotel, the glass is thin, and the street noise can be a little much, but we would definitely go back on our next visit to San Diego.
