Get what you pay for

Posted Sep 21, 2017
Check-in was easy and staff were helpful and polite. The location was also great, near great restaurants and bars. The elevator to the rooms was super small and claustrophobic feeling...plus it had the creepy old style doors that felt like we were riding in Disney's Haunted Mansion. The room was okay for what it was, but first red flag was the ear plugs left on our pillows. The walls are super thin and everything can be heard, from the neighbors in other rooms to the street noise outside. The shower was super small and cramped and water pressure low. Wouldn't stay again

Good location but needs a refurb.

Posted Sep 21, 2017
Pros: Great location, everything else average.
Made the booking for the excellent & convenient location, apart from that there's not a lot of positives about this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing us with an extra bed. We had breakfast included although there was a mix up (new hotel policy?) and so went to eat in next door cafe, who charged us over $25.00 for 5 coffees!! So basically breakfast is not included! Hotel is an old building retaining some old charm, however parts are in need of some reurbishment (Bathroom a prime example).

Quaint hotel in pedestrian district

Posted Sep 17, 2017
Comfy bed, clean, mod amenities. Toilet terribly low to ground. Shower TINY. Small sink area could use hooks and shelves to create more useable space.

Amazing luxurious room.

Posted Sep 17, 2017
Pros: Great staff
Cons: The gym sucks. Only 2 machines and the treadmill didn't work.
Location: Unlimited restaurants and grocery stores and gyms nearby.
Great staff and beautiful room. Awesome restaurants and grocery stores nearby.

Historic is a euphemism for shabby

Posted Sep 16, 2017
Pros: The staff was great
Cons: Cleanliness.
Location: Great location, right in the Gaslight District
The hotel was old, not historic. The water in the shower never got more than lukewarm, and there was mold in the shower. the water pressure was barely there. You are paying entirely for location here. the room reminded me of some of the hotels i stayed at in the 70's. Stayed 2 nights, no maid service after the first night. Would not recommend this hotel.

on Gaslamp

Posted Sep 11, 2017
Pros: the staff
Cons: the hotel is old and you have to put up with that - so nothing
Location: everything you want to do in the Gasslamp and downtown SD is s close at hand
the staff are so friendly and tell you about places to vist, and even local beers to try. Quite an excelptional place to stay. I will tell folk go there and enjoy the total relaxed atmosphere of the place.

Front desk

Matthew at the front desk was excellent. He went the extra mile for us. And the other front desk people were pretty good also. All of them took good care of us. Thanks!!!

Staff are very accommodating and helpful. I was worried about street noise but actually was not disturbed, though it must be said I was there mid-week. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel.

Older, comfortable hotel with a European feel

Posted Aug 31, 2017
Pros: Atmosphere, staff and root top deck
Cons: Beds were a little soft for us.
Location: Lots to do in the Gaslamp area of San Diego. Good dining, shopping and short walk to the harbor. Ball park close by.
Loved the feel of this older hotel, very historic, built around 1913. Fun riding in the elevators from that era!! Besides the friendly staff, the roof top deck was the best!! It was so nice to be able to go up to the roof and relax and watch the city go by. Would for sure stay here again!!
