Hotel right on harbour and close to al action

Pros: Close to most everythin
Cons: cosmetics. Needs refresh
Location: Close to harbour so lots of activity in the water and situated between Water and Duckworth streets ( where all, or most of the activities happen
Major reason I would recommend this hotel is location. It satisfied all our needs and was within walking distance to downtown activities, harbour and most other activities we attended. However, I think the hotel needs to be updated, at least with paint and carpeting in the rooms-just little things. We arrived to early for our room, but the lady did tell me to give her 20 minutes and it would be ready. I also believe she told me our room was on the 4th floor, but when we arrived back an hour or so later our room was on the 1st floor and the new lady did not want to discuss. I believe the hotel was fully booked. We are planning to return next May and I do not believe that is tourist season, but I think we will check out the Sheraton and pay a little more, as this upset me.

Very pleasant stay in the city, good restaurant, staff become life family after a while.

POOR MANAGEMENT - GOOD EMPLOYEES

Cons: Everything including pre-booking policies, more staff and free amenities.

It is the first time I have pre-booked a room and a day or 2 later the full cost of the room was charged to my credit card. In the confirmation I received it stated--"This reservation is non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or changed."I was really surprised by this. It also stated "This hotel requires an initial deposit which will be charged to your credit card. The remaining balance will be collected by the hotel during your stay." This didn"t happen. Problems occurred as soon as I entered the hotel----long wait to check in,door key card did not work,the emergency door key card that I was given when I went back down to the front desk did not open the door. After another long wait the front desk employee came and opened the door. When you come to this hotel there is almost no where to park your vehicle for check-in. There are very few amenities--no free breakfast and $12 to park your vehicle.This hotel has excellent employees but they are overworked.I believe the problem with this hotel is whoever runs it is trying to make the most money possible and spend very little in return.

Early check in

We were early for our check in & took a chance to see if our room was ready. It was not ready however the front desk went above & beyond to find a room that was ready. She found a room for us ready & upgraded us with no extra charge with a great Harbour view. All the staff in the hotel & restaurant were always friendly & willing to go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Will definitely stay here again & highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel downtown

Hotel is nice. Conveniently located for what I had to do in St. John's. Room fridge still had half empty beverage containers in it. Coffee maker did not work in the room. Toilet paper not put on the roll. Left on the sink unopened. Not sure if that's their procedure. Stay was great overall. Staff at front desk very helpful.

What view?

The view from my second floor room was of the sidewalk of the noisy street just meters from my open window, not the scenic harbour. Loud traffic, loud pedestrians and a loud mechanical hum from below my window. Closing the window did little to reduce the noise level. The bed was as hard a a rock and I actually knocked my knee and bruised it on some kind of wooden support that was around the mattress as I was trying to climb into it. The pillows seemed as if they had been cut in half and were the the size of sofa cushions. No support and no comfort. The underground parking was dark, creepy and only two of the four levels had elevator access to the lobby. As a solo traveller, I did not feel comfortable using it. It was not secure and anyone off the street could access it by just walking in. I checked out after the first night instead of staying the five nights I had planned.
