We stayed only one night in this beautiful hotel but had a beautiful room and a wonderful dinner and a lovely cocktail at the bar before and after.

Olfactory Caution

First time back to the Empress in many years, the renovations especially of the lobby, restaurants, bar and common areas are impressive. Service and attentiveness by the hotel staff was impressive and the caliber one would expect from a premier hotel. The hotel’s common areas are strongly “scented”, if you’ve ever shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch you know what I’m talking about. It’s constant and sometimes overwhelming. For anyone who is sensitive to fragrances this hotel may not be for you. My wife who has a moderate sensitivity fell ill from the scent.

Location: Location was great, endless things to do, lots of great restaurants, shopping and touring.
I was very excited to stay at the Fairmont in Victoria. It's always been on my list of places to stay. I loved the actual hotel, but our room was terrible. We were placed on the second floor above some type of generator or fan that was constantly running. During the waking hours it was just background noise, but trying to sleep was impossible. I spent most of my night awake listening to the fan switch on and off. Extremely disappointing considering what I paid for the room. I would like to stay again, but certainly will be requesting a better room.

Pros: Terrific, helpful staff.
Cons: Restaurant quality and the tea service was not up to the standards we expected.
Location: Can’t beat the location in the heart of Victoria. Everything in the city is pretty much walkable. Nearby shopping, parks, restaurants and sightseein
We stayed two nights in a two room suite overlooking Victoria Harbour. The room was furnished in heavy wooden, antique-looking style. Very nice, except the pullout sofa was a bit threadbare and it too clean. The king bed was very comfy. He view was magnificent. The walls were apparently thin, as we could frequently hear guests in other rooms. the hotel was beautiful throughout, and all of the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Our biggest disappointment was the afternoon tea, which is extremely expensive, but we thought we should try anyway. The test and assortment of small bites were okay, but the room was noisy and the experience was no where near what we paid for. The other restaurant in the hotel had a surprisingly limited menu, also overpriced (even for hotel food). Again, the staff was great though, in all respects. The express checkout was not what I expected. Almost 24 hours later and we have yet to receive our receipt. It was a fun experience over all, but I doubt we will do it again at the Fairmont.

Pros: Decor, location, kind staff, history,
If you're going to go to Victoria, stay here. PERIOD. It's just part of the overall experience. Not really worth it to save a few bucs & stay elsewhere when the hotel experience is a main part of the trip. Very kind staff & I suggest using the valet parking, as it was a darn good deal compared to self parking. Rooms are beautifully remodeled but still have that old world charm. Wouldn't consider anywhere else in Victoria. Absolutely a must to stop at the Butchart Gardens on the way in or out of town.

Beautiful hotel in great location

Warm greeting, easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Beautifully updated and refreshed. Grounds very well kept. Concierge very helpful. Thanks for the loaner umbrellas on drippy day. Location is excellent. Close to old town with great shops and eateries, Harbour and green space across street, parliament building is lit up at night and close by. Royal Museum next block over. Lots of tours available from in front of hotel. Fishermans wharf a short walk away.

Made the difference

This hotel was a fantastic experience for me and my family. They attended to every need and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. We celebrated our anniversary and we were greeted with a gift. The restaurant food was very good and the whole area is very walkable and in the middle of most sites.

Elegant hotel facing harbour

Cons: Bengals staff needs to lose the attitude and be more respectful.
Excellent and exceptional. The new entrance and additions are exquisite. Must try the Q lounge.
