Nice but not Great

Pros: The modern look.
Cons: Better cleaning service.
Location: Restaurants near ex. Shake shack, tThe Commissary, There is a 711 and a Whole Foods around the block. White House is 4 miles away.
This hotel is a boutique Hotel. It was fairly clean except there were stains on the rug and some dust in the air conditioning vents. It had a nice 4ft pool on the roof top which closes at 5pm to turn into a bar. We did hear some loud music in our room at night and we were located on the 6th floor. The area can be compared to the Village area of New York City. The are several homeless people on 14th street but not directly in front of Hotel. Nice stay at hotel but not worth returning to.

Great little boutique hotel near everything

Pros: cool and quiet, large spacious shower
Cons: room maintenance, fixtures, cabinets, and cleaning the rug stains
I really like the Mason and Rook and so far, it's my favorite hotel to stay when I'm visiting DC. This is the second time I've stayed there and the room was as cool and as quiet as I remembered. I really like the size of the bathroom showers as well, as other ones in DC I've stayed are usually super small. There were a couple things with the room in terms of maintenance that do need attention: 1) the bathroom light switch works intermittently and needs to be replaced, 2) the cabinet door hinge to the mini-refrigerator was broken and needs to be fixed 3) there were several rug stains on the floor from spills, particularly one at the end of the cool grey couch, that really do need to be cleaned. Overall, I still really enjoy the mason and rook and would stay there again.

Nice but a bit disorganized...

Pros: Great valet service.
Very nice boutique hotel. Comfortable, large room. Reasonably priced. The only hiccup was room service. We ordered RS breakfast the night before and when it didn't arrive during the 15 minute window the following morning, we called the kitchen. I needed to call twice because I was disconnected. They had no record of the order. Rather disorganized. The kitchen said they would have the order at our room within Ten minutes. Twenty minutes, no food. Other than that disappointment, the hotel was nice.

Little Gem

Never stayed in a Kimpton before, but took a punt as we couldn't fault the price against other hotels in Washington. Extremely happy with the hotel and glad we chose it! We chose to upgrade to a larger room with a roll-top bath which was well worth it; bathroom was spacious with a large walk-in shower + separate bath. I also liked the fact the toiletries they gave you were full size bottles- a small detail but much better than those fiddly little things you get. Room itself was also large with a big flat screen TV, safe + fully stocked mini bar and other amenities e.g razer. Another small detail that made a difference was the fact there were USB charging slots on the bedside lights which were very handy. Decor is described as "masculine" by the hotel, which although is true, I loved it myself as it's very modern and contemporary. The bar/restaurant called "radiator" is what I would describe as quirky and feel that it tries a bit too hard. Location of the hotel is good- great selection of restaurants down the road to eat at and is a 20 minute walk to The White House/The Mall. Couldn't comment on the pool as never got to use it- problem was it was only open 9am-4pm and we spent all that time out exploring. In summary, a clean, contemporary hotel with large rooms, great service and great location. Probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in- highly recommended to couples/business travelers/families with older children.

Comfortable, but extra fees

The room we were given originally had no drawers so I couldn't unpack; it may be because we were in a small 'economical' room ($250/day plus $50 tax). When I called and told them I needed drawer space they upgrading my room which was a lot more spacious (but only had 2 drawers...). Both rooms had all the amenities just in a smaller size. Also we were charged $10/day as a 'service fee', for Wi-Fi, coffeemaker, etc. And there are no ice machines, you have to order it from room service (I don't think there is a fee, it's covered in the service fee).

Great place.....but they took my money

Immediately had a good feeling about mason and rook...had spoken to Stephanie prior to our arrival and discussed it was our 20th wedding anniversary... there were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for us on arrival...room was clean and the hotel was obviously fairly new...the only problem for the stay was my hotel fees were paid in full prior to arrival 1645.00 for 4 nights....on arrival the hotel requested a card to hold for charges and proceeded to remove another $500 from my bank account without my authorization...I'm still waiting on my money to be returned to me!! So as far as the stay it was nice...would definitely go to mason and rook again as long as they return my money...but for right now I'm feeling robbed....they $125 per night that they held "just in case" really ran my vacation funds shorter than I had anticipated ...there is a $25 per night resort fee that they charge also but I was aware of it...so all of the hidden costs are not great for guests....

Horrible experience :(

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I stay at many levels of hotels and was shocked by how poor our experience was while staying here... I have never had this type of experience before, let alone for over $300 a night. When we arrived, we were told they oversold our room. We were looking forward to a king bed and were put in a room with two beds. We were told we would be moved in the morning. We didn't have much time and didn't want to have to repack, but thought it would be worth it to get into the room we booked. In the meantime, while we were in the room they gave us, the lights were not turning on and the blinds were broken. We were happy that they moved us to a new room the next day. However, we quickly learned that the new room had no AC and it was 80+ degrees outside. The room was incredibly humid and warm. We sent many messages and called the desk about this issue. Finally the next day an engineer came by to try to fix the AC. We were told to wait a little and that it would probably be fixed soon. No luck. We were then moved to a different (our 3rd) room. This was extremely exhausting. Beyond ridiculous -- we spent half the trip contacting the front desk about the issues or sweating in the room. It was a complete disaster. I have honestly never had an experience like this before and was shocked that nothing was done to make our stay better. Luckily on our last night we had an okay room with AC working properly. So disappointed...
