Comfortable hotel about 10 minutes from DXB

This hotel is a diamond in the rough. Rated 4-stars and located in Deira in the traditional heart of old Dubai not far from the gold and spice souks. The hotel is about 10-minutes by taxi from DXB airport, and close to the metro red line (5 minutes walk to Al Riqqa station). Although visible from Al Muraqqabat Rd, there is no direct access from that street, so trust in GPS or the knowledge of the local taxi drivers to snake your way to the front door through backstreets and a car park. Once inside you're warmly greeted by the reception with a cup of juice or water as they check you in. The staff in every department is friendly and courteous, and they put guests at ease by greeting them in person or on the phone by using the guest's first name with the appropriate title. Yes, the hotel is small enough that everyone quickly knows who you are, but not in an intrusive sense. One gets the idea that you are important to the hotel and the staff truly want to serve. The room was comfortable and spacious. The only negative was that there was only 1 free outlet for charging electronics (under the desk) away from the bed. The bar counter was enough to enjoy a late-night meal delivered from the 24-hour cafe in the lobby. This was the first hotel I've stayed in where the menu for both cafe and in-room dining is the same, and the bill didn't include service charges, so I recommend a nice tip to the staff upon delivery. The room service menu has variety as does the morning buffet.
