Fit our needsPosted Aug 6, 2013
Pros: It had a homey feel - the owner was really personable and nice. Free Duluth paper in the morning!
Just what we were looking for - a place to stop after spending the day in Duluth and before heading up to Split Rock to camp. Cozy and with a great view of the lake. There's also a nice public rocky area across the street where you can get closer to the water. I can't remember the details but I swear we paid more than we were quoted on Expedia. It seemed steep to pay $105 or so for a basic room here when we paid $119 for an updated room in the Holiday Inn in Duluth on the way back (where there are 2 pools, sauna, walkable to restaurants, etc).

Confirmed Reservation Means NothingPosted Jul 30, 2013
Pros: Good water pressure, clean bathroom. New window that opened and closed easily.
Cons: The lighting. Inside the room it was dark. They also need better locks on the exterior door. They should join the twenty first century & get cable.
Location: Very good location across the street from the lake. There is boat access next door and room to park your vehicle & boat trailer.
Found out that management double booked the large unit I reserved for Duluths largest festival months in advance. They were able to squeeze me into a smaller, basic room along with a small discount on the price. Although they were profousely apologetic I had to retract an invitation I made to friends since we were only getting a basic queen bed unit instead of the two bedroom apartment I booked through Expedia. Huge disappointment. Although the unit itself was clean it was quite dark, even in the daytime. It really needs some overhead lighting inside. They do not provide cable tv. What a surprise to see "rabbit ears" on the dresser. The tv reception was poor and there were only a handful of channels anyways.

One night stay only.Posted Jul 28, 2013
Pros: See above.
Cons: See above.
Location: City of Duluth. We went to see the Tall Ships in the Duluth harbor.
Train went by only once. Heard other traffic throughout the night. Refrigerator made a weird noise all night which kept us awake. Toilet clogged and wouldn't stop running. I had to remove the top and fix it so it wouldn't keep running. No phone in room. No tissues in room. TV was sensitive to any movement we made. The room was clean. There was no decaf coffee in the 2 packets that were in our room and none in the office. We don't drink regular coffee. No tea there either. Office person pleasant, but gave us the wrong directions on how to get there. We went 35 miles out of the way. No breakfast provided. View of lake was pretty.

Not what you would expect!Posted Jul 22, 2013
Pros: The view and proximity to the lake.
Cons: Update the rooms/bathrooms.
Location: Check out a restaurant a little ways down 61 called the New Scenic Cafe...hands down the best food we had during our entire trip.
This motel is not what you would expect by looking at it. It looks old, because it is...but the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. Our room had a small bathroom with a stall type shower and small vanity. Also in our room was a microwave and mini fridge. Within the same building is the "Bottle Shop" where you can buy wine, beer or liquor. Right next door is a restaurant called the Clearwater Grille that hosts special events and does catering as well. We ate there one night on the deck with a great lake view and it was good! Also of note is the incredible view of Lake Superior. This motel was literally right on the lake. The view and proximity to the water is really the big selling point of this place. I highly recommend it based on that alone. There is also a small harbor that is absolutely beautiful right down the road within walking distance that is great for walking. We sat on one of the steps that lead to the lake one evening and an otter came up and started making noise at us! You won't regret staying here!

Midnight Sun 5KPosted Jul 6, 2013
Cons: Next time we will get a room that views the lake. Ours was wonderfully quite and secluded, but the view was limited
Location: We were close to everything. Right on the lake it was a great location between Duluth and Two Harbors
Wonderful stay, the room was clean and the staff was outstanding. We would stay again.

close to lake is the only plusPosted Jun 17, 2013
Cons: mngmt - clean the place up
Location: anything outside the hotel was fun
dirty rooms - filthy and stunk when we got there- very foul odor that would not go away. Mngmt showed up 1 hour after we checked in to bring a new microwave - like it couldn't wait til we left or could they have done that before guests checked in - were they hoping to see someone undressed? Didn't feel comfortable sleeping there. My sisters room shower was plugged - water all over the floor.

Old Motel, nothing fancyPosted Oct 8, 2012
Pros: They had available rooms at a good rate on a busy weekend.
Cons: Could hear snoring from the next room. Could hear people walking by on outdoor wood walkway.
Location: Great view of Lake Superior. Next door to nice restaurant.
The price was right, but the noise from other rooms and from people walking by made it not a very pleasant stay

Lake view is awesomePosted Oct 2, 2012
Pros: The Lake view
Every room faces the lake, and its beautiful. It was spacious and had a well maintained Kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom was comfortable and clean.

Small but comfortablePosted Sep 26, 2012
Pros: The room was decorated nicely, not the standard hotel stuff.
Cons: Distance from downtown Duluth
Location: Across the hwy from Lake Superior; a walking trail leading to a lookout over the lake. About 12 miles to downtown, some tourist attractions nearby.
The Cape Superior Inn reminds me of a European hotel. It is an older building with small rooms and small shower/bath. It is clean and nicely appointed though. Check in is friendly and requests (extra pillows) are received courteously. This hotel is about 12 miles from downtown Duluth. Our room had a very nice view of Lake Superior across the highway.
