What was unique was being charged £80 for a squat. This is a dilapidated, dated and disgusting hotel with mould on the shower head that was most likely a health hazard.

This is an older facility. Room was relatively small, but comfortable and quiet. Staff at reception and restaurant were very friendly and efficient.

Easy to find, good rooms pleasant staff - limited menu choice but would use again. Rooms had a lot of traffic noise could do with decent double glazing/sound proofing

I only stayed one night and the hotel was ok. The hotel is right next to the station (obviously) and a 20 minute or so walk into town. The room was a bit tired but clean, comfortable and I felt safe. The bathroom was clean and the shower powerful. On the top floor of an old building I was expecting less, so pleasantly surprised. There was a shelf in the shower and above the sink which I like and a full length mirror in the room too. There was an additional heater and a fan too to cover all eventualities. I had wifi but couldn't get internet. No idea why. My only issue was the hairdryer had a shortish cable and with the socket on the floor it wouldn't reach as far as I'd like. Breakfast was in the basement and was fine but I must mention that the scrambled eggs were really nice, light and not greasy which I often find. Overall, a reasonable 3 star for a reasonable price, ideal for an overnight in Dumfries.

The room smelled. Changed room and it also smelled. It was late at night so we stayed anyway, hard to sleep in a room that smells like the carpets haven't been changed in 30 years. All the taps and pipes were rusty and dilapidated. I wouldn't normally write a bad review of somewhere, but i'm sure there's another hotel in Dumfries you can spend your money with that has made an effort.

Room was basic but OK for one person. Had breakfast on second day and it was plenty for me and well cooked. The bar was undergoing refurb but the staff were welcoming and helpful. Bistro was closed during weekdays so had to go out for food. Location excellent for exploring town

tired - awful bouncy slow lift - key card didn't work - no food available just given list of takeaways (which couldn't deliver to the room or staff deliver to room) just properly shabby. Bed and bathroom was ok.

Being refurbished, lovely new rooms.
This hotel is being reburbed so there is no resturant....I had a newly decorated room, which was lovely. Across from the train station so really convenient and easy to walk into the centre.

Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room clean, reasonable size, good view, had a functioning TV, wifi etc. Easy access from the rail station, good sound proofing.

I had a late arrival and an early start, so didn't see much of the Hotel. However I was very happy with my room and food, and all staff were excellent.

Twin room booked for one night at very short notice, advertised as last room of this type available. Hotel (with complimentary parking) was easy to find and reception staff were friendly and courteous. Room, en-suite shower room and linen/towels were clean, however the physical condition of the room was in poor repair. The surface mounting box for the power sockets behind the single bedside cabinet was broken, resulting in the socket plate being unattached to the box and the internal wiring open/accessible. The sockets were still operational. The light above the dressing table did not operate, as there was no pull-cord attached. The inner door handle on the room door was not secured, and slipped off the operating bar. The wall and ceiling paper in en-suite shower room was peeling off the walls and the cold water tap could not be shut off fully. The main power socket and door handle issues were reported to reception during check-out. On the plus side, the room and property were well heated and the included breakfast was good with both meat and vegetarian choices.

The hotel staff could not be faulted in any aspect of our stay. Our complaint was the condition of the bathroom. The shower screen had green mould all along the edges and the area around the taps was black mould. This could easily have been cleaned. We have stayed in this hotel on previous occasions but were disappointed with its condition this time.

Nice position and lovely breakfast.
Nice building and clean room, bed very comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding, you tick all options wanted the night before and service was seamless. Staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent.

Not what we expected from Best Western
We were celebrating our special wedding anniversary and booked this hotel only because it had the four poster bedroom. On arrival, the room was not available and we were given an alternative room. Nobody tried to call us beforehand. The room given to us was the executive room, which had a broken office chair and a wobbly table. Not a great experience.

It was fine. Hard to call it a “best” western as it was really tired as a hotel, but as a town dumfries has very few hotel options sadly Still adhering to social distancing in their restaurant when it’s no longer required and as a result there were no suitable slots left for breakfast.

Unfortunately we did not get the chance to stay we opened the door to our exec king size 4 poster bedroom and we found that the room was still stuck in 1960 this room was so outdated we turned and left the building

Maintains best western standard Nice quiet location, even though it's in centre. Hotel is an impressive building inside and out. The roons were huge, clean and secure. Bathrooms seem to be different sizes, shower only or shower over bath, regardless they were spotless. All staff were professional but had a sense of humour, pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was fresh and delivered to table hot, extra tea and toast? not a problem sorted. recommended hotel and we will be returning

Tired and not Covid clean
Not Covid compliant! Blood on the wall in our room so that hadn’t been sanitised. Made us more careful with everything, food, drink etc Single room has low ceiling and I wouldn’t use it again! Carpet is still the same, last year it was threadbare, this year is slightly worse.

Far exceeded my expectations. The hotel has so much history in it. True enough this is faded grandeur with threadbare carpets but if you can look beyond that it is a wonderful place to stay.

Very good,comfortable hotel adjacent to the railway station\Free parking at hotel good since much of Dumfies has restricted disc parking.Fine large room with 4-poster bed.Very good hot cooked breakfast.

It wasn’t worth the money, stained chairs, old furniture. The room looked tired, something you’d expect at your grandmother’s house. While sleeping, one of the staff members entered my room without knocking. I am a light sleeper, so that affected my sleep. The only advantage was the location; it was next to the station. I’d only return if every other hotel were booked.

One night only
Last minute booking for business - single room Reception: checked in efficiently by very friendly receptionist. Room 40: slightly dated, but I bet it’s a listed building. Extremely clean. Fan, iron, tea, coffee & a shortbread biscuit. Bathroom: overall a reasonable size, very clean, but Shower tiny ! No bath. Dinner : n/a no chef, so restaurant closed, but it’s a short stroll into the centre & lots of recommendations by the receptionist. Bar: sat outside in the garden area. Very nice. Breakfast: efficiently run by a friendly waitress. pre booked food at check in COVID restrictions apply, so no buffet, I had continental choices, coffee and a sausage sandwich. Would stay again : COVID restrictions, but very well looked after by the staff on duty.
