Best choice for location

Pros: location
Cons: Test the pool chemicals regularly - was cloudy until the last day of my family's stay
Location: wine-tasting, whale-watching, fishing, great restaurants
Hotel is older and parts of it are tired. However, there are very few choices in Cowichan Bay. The staff is excellent (shout-out to Cathy). Pros: each room has a lovely view. The Wi-Fi is excellent. Cons: not all rooms have been renovated (I stayed her twice in two weeks - in three different rooms). You may be in a room with older TV, furniture etc. Kitchens are not well-equipped. Each room had different dishes. Note to hotel - you're located in wine-country. Supply wine-glasses.

We had a bit of a hiccup booking our room the staff was awesome to deal with the room was BIG and had an ideal view. close to all the markets ill for sure stay here again.

Good location, a bit overpriced

Cons: The bathrooms
Location: Great location for exploring Cowichan village, the Masthead restaurant which is just down the street was so delicious. Go to the Raptors in Duncan.
The hotel is located in a good location to explore Cowichan village. The staff was great and check in and check out were smooth and quick, we were also given coupons for free continental breakfast so that was a nice bonus. It was yogurt with granola, fresh fruit and a croissant along with tea or coffee. The restaurant has a very nice view looking over the water so I would definitely go there for breakfast. We booked a standard room and those are not fully renovated so if you are looking for a nicer cleaner room book an executive suite. The shower head in the bathroom was quite low so it made having a shower a bit difficult but the hotel has said they will be finishing upgrading the rest of their rooms soon so hopefully they will redo the bathrooms. The beds seem to be new and were comfortable so sleeping was enjoyable. Overall I would stay here again but book an executive suite for a newer room.

Disappointing stay but the setting was beautiful

We were so disappointed in our stay. Our room smelled awful in spite of attempts to spray (strong food odor from previous guests?), had to access wifi through the room next door, extremely loud noise from laundry across the hall (daily, and until past 10 pm on our last night), smoke (cigarette and "other" recreational smoke) wafted into our bedroom during the night, and because we were on the 2nd floor our view was limited. Considering we booked for a 6 night stay well in advance, we had hoped for a nicer room but were unable to change in spite of booking in a day prior to the Long Weekend. Although we were told the rooms had been renovated, ours seemed dull and worn compared to another one we had viewed. This hotel has the potential to be really really nice and staff did their best to remedy what they could however if it wasn't one disappointment/frustration it was another. For the price I would hesitate to stay there again. Sorry.

Beautiful view, lovely property!

We stayed here for one night while driving around the island. The whole property felt luxurious and like a surprise gift in the middle of nowhere.

Suite was roomy but pretty stark...no pictures on the walls, odd lighting, laminate floors. If you were staying for multiple nights and using the kitchenette, the only coffee maker supplied makes single cups and not pods... those soft prefilled coffee rounds - not even sure where you would buy those if you wanted more. Most suites that we have stayed in have a coffee maker so we could buy extra coffee. Hotel included continental breakfast that did not include coffee or tea...?????? and... beware... obviously we booked through hotels.com and room was paid for in advance but the hotel does take a very large credit cd authorization..$250 and not very concerned about ensuring that it has been taken off--- that was more than the cost of the room for the night.

Beautiful to wake up to the sun shining

Pros: Having a bedroom and living room was a nice treat for similar cost to non beachfront hotels
Cons: Breakfast included a continental breakfast of yogurt sprinkled with granola, a fruit bowl, and a croissant. You couldn't apply that something else
Location: Lots of waterfront shops and even a small boats society museum. Art Vickers gallery was a nice treat just down a couple of doors.
Awesome mornings. The sheers on the windows let in just enough light for a relaxed wake up. Looking out to the small beach, marina, ocean and mountains was refreshing. It is obvious the hotel is older; however, you can tell they provide continuous upkeep.
