At first glance looks a little untidy from the outside but we (2 adults and 2 children) stayed over for 1 night whilst visiting friends in the area and had a very entertaining time in the bar chatting to the owners and other bar customers. Had a bar meal which was cheap and filling and the room was ...
Loved staying here the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The bar and restaurant are amazing. It's only a 15-20 mins walk to beamish museum which is a must visit if your staying here. Overall had a great experience staying at the hotel
Unable to say anything negative, the place is lovely, in a country park setting, and five star all the way. This is now my hotel of choice in the north of England, no other hotel comes close in terms of luxury for low rates. Restaurant and bar prices are very reasonable for such a nice hotel. Local ...
Rooms, bars, restaurants and relax areas all around the hotel are comfortable and luxurious. Everyone are pleasant and helpful. A very pleasurable and special stay.
Arrived and check in done by bar staff. Seemed a slight inconvenience and not very welcoming. Discovered they did not serve food on a Sunday evening when we arrived at 5.30 pm. Only suggestion was to go to eat somewhere else. Room was a basic double with a shower room ensuite. Could not be described ...
The staff were very welcoming on arrival. The room was nicely decorated. The bar staff were also very friendly and the food was excellent value for money. I will definitely stay here again.
Excellent staff. Very friendly and welcoming. Very good food available at the bar each evening. Good breakfast. Straight forward and well cooked. And excellent value for money!
The Avenue Inn is a restored public house with outstanding food and great service. Because it was a public house, some of the spaces are cramped and have low ceilings. But the Village of High Shircliffe, is close to Durham making it easy to access the city.
Really pleasant staff couldn’t do enough for you but not intrusive. Brilliant breakfast. We have recommended this place to several of our friends and will definitely be visiting again
The hotel was set in a very rural location a bit off the beaten track but well worth finding. Very peaceful and quite. be aware mobile reception is appalling (not the hotel's fault) and internet is only available in the bar. This was a godsend for me as it meant we had to actually talk to each other ...

Very loud music until midnight from speakers in the bar. Then it was turned on again at 0830 on Sunday morning - boom, boom, boom... I had to battle with the waitress to get it turned down at breakfast. When she eventually turned it down fellow guests looked relieved. The room wasn't very clean.. ...
