We always enjoy staying at the Royal County. Lovely rooms, super comfortable, and well thought-out touches. Staff are always helpful, polite and friendly. Good breakfast.

Interesting property, with unique hallways inside. Great area for walking around and exploring. David, at the front desk, was particularly helpful with suggesting walking paths. Breakfast in the hotel; not recommended.

Charming hotel, although our family room was in an annexe with no view so felt a bit out of it (it was a huge room though). Breakfast was good quality but not much choice of continental foods and it was laid out on a table so not quite a 4 star feel (coffee from machine etc) Very convenient for the sites and a decent car park charging at £11 a day (it’s quite big but I suspect if the hotel was full you’d struggle to park nearby).

Nothing to complain about at all. If you get a room that’s at the far end of the hotel you have to have a good sense of direction. I was on the first floor but had to get a lift to the second, then walk over the corridor above an archway, then get a lift back down to the first floor. I was just getting used to it when I had to come home. It didn’t spoil anything, just kept the old mind alert. I would definitely go back there if I visited Durham again. Handy position too and good parking facilities.

Outstanding hotel.
A brilliant two-day stay! Couldn’t find fault anywhere. All the staff were lovely and friendly and helpful, whilst still being professional. Exceptionally clean everywhere. We always stay there for special occasions.

Lovely Cathedral suite. Excellent except the bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied after previous guests, soap dishes also dirty and the Jacuzzi wasn’t working.

In need of a facelift. Staff were poor. A hotel without a restaurant. Check in allegedly 3 pm however room not available until 4:30. Bar has poor selection of drinks. Hotel extremely convenient for visiting Durham centre.

Everything was excellent. If there was one point to improve on, breakfast should be included or at least cheaper than £14, which is very expensive. Other than that, all brilliant. Had a wonderful day in Newcastle and also went to Seaham on the coast, thankfully weather was gorgeous and very warm for November!

Just ok, staff helpful and friendly. Room dated, old and dark furniture. Poitnless having a T.V if it doesn’t even pick up national chanels. Fridge full of half eaten food from previous guest. Bathroom has mould on the sealant and grout. Bar was spacious and drinks reasonably priced.
