Nice hotel. Hidden fees.

Didn't expect to have to pay parking and taxes on top of the Expedia charge.

Dear Jeff, thanks for staying with us. The city tax and the fee for use of the secure car park with barrier access is clearly mentioned on the Expedia website. However at the same time you get a tasty breakfast included free of charge. This saves between 14 - 25 eur compared to similar hotels in the area. Do compare the total cost of your stay and you will see that Holiday Inn Express Gent was a smart choice..

Hotel on an industrial estate

Posted Jul 10, 2015
Room was adequate for an overnight stay. Both lifts out of order on arrival not fun dragging 2 kids and baggage up two flights of stairs. However, room spacious and satisfactory overall in regard to cleanliness. Expensive restaurant next to hotel and not sure they would appreciate kids there. If you walk 10 or 15 mins to the stadium there is a supermarket. Make sure that you have Euro notes because non Belgian debit or credit cards accept. 3 Euro tax collected by hotel per adult and 10 Euro to park your car.

Dear guest Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your experiences with our hotel. I agree that we did have a problem with both our elevators at a certain moment [funny enough just after a maintenance visit by the elevator contractor] Luckily the inconvience only lasted for 20 minutes. With regards to the adjoining Brasserie D-LYS: depending on what you select, there's snacks starting at 5 eur and a 4-course dinner buffet at 22 eur. Even better: Hotel guests get 10% off, AND kids eat free at Brasserie D-LYS so do visit them when you're in the hotel. With regards to the credit cards i'm not sure what you mean. Basically we accept al major national/international cards. The 3 EUR tax is citytax for adults charged by the Ghent City Council, and 10 eur is only if you use our car park with barrier access. I hope this explains things a bit more, and we look forward to your next visit when you are passing by in Gent! Sincerely Laurens Roels, Hotel Manager

Convenient for us visiting Ghent by car - I didn't feel confident driving in the centre amongst the trams and this hotel is easy to access from the motorway, and has a big car park. Taxi into the city is affordable and easily arranged by reception. The attached hotel restaurant and bar is surprisingly good. Comfortable clean room - our only gripe was the shower water temperature is on the low side and the towels thin. The whole experience was great value.

Good value for stopover with car

Posted Jun 8, 2015
Pros: Child friendly Attached bar restaurant is very good Easy car parking
Cons: Water temperature in shower Thin towels
Location: Easy drive from main routes. Found it best to get a taxi into city
Booked for a family event to be held in the city. We had children and several adults for a couple of nights. The first night we ate at the attached Brasserie which was surprisingly good. Found taxi into the city was best. Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Would be happy to use again.

Underwhelming

Posted Aug 29, 2014
Pros: Not a lot, to be honest
Cons: Bedding and breakfast
Location: The centre of Gent is fantastic.
The hotel is not exactly handy for the centre of Gent but that is scarcely its fault. The four negatives for us were: 1. Flea bites from the bedding - it was a cold evening so we used the blankets, and on reflection wish we hadn't. 2. Body odour of the man on reception in the morning - I suppose we shouldn't blame the hotel for this but perhaps his colleagues are too polite to point it out to him! 3. Breakfast - crowded and not particularly nice. 4. Parking charge - daily rate quite steep. OK. it's not hidden, but it's only slightly less than the all day rate in the middle of the historic centre. Wouldn't recommend other than possibly to a business executive attending a meeting in the area.

Dear shazzie b Thank you for your positive comments. We rely on you as our guest to tell us where we are performing well, and what areas need our attention. So it's good to see that you have appreciated the new mattresses and the refreshed Brasserie D-LYS. There's so much to see in Gent, so i do hope you will find some time in the near future to come and visit our beautiful city again... Sincerely Laurens Roels Hotel Manager

Great hotel but not the best location

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: More storage in room
Location: Nothing within walking distance but lots if travelling by car or bus
A clean and pleasant hotel with a great breakfast. But the location is a way from the main town centre. Having looked at the map, I thought it wasn`t too far. It is only a few kilometres away but to use public transport is far from ideal. A bus comes once an hour to the train station, (the last bus back is before 9pm) and then it is a 25 minute walk from there to the main square. A taxi would cost £15 each way. Then there is a charge of 10 euros a night to park your car. So the initial cheap room rate does have extras added.

Gent hotel within good bus service to centre

Posted Aug 6, 2014
Pros: Staff extremely helpful and pleasant
Cons: Toilet facilities in bedroom
Location: Not too near Gent but easy to get there by bus and tram
Staff extremely helpful and pleasant. Restaurant newly opened was good and staff very helpful. Bedroom was reasonable but for 4 people would have been better to have either separate toilet from shower or an extra toilet.

Hi there Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our hotel. I'm delighted to read that you enjoyed our newly opened Brasserie D-LYS. With regards to the toilet: did you notice that you can actually use the bathroom door also to close of the toilet? This way you can actually get that little bit of privacy everybody wants on the toilet. Sincerely Laurens Roels Hotel Manager
