Für eine Nacht, ok.

Posted Aug 8, 2015
Pros: Der Blick aufs Meer.

Not as bad as it sounds

This hotel's reputation may be off-putting but if you are open to the owner's quirkiness you might enjoy it as a classic example of a dying breed - the dreary beachside B&B with a heart of gold.

Building Site, smellling of wet concrete

Posted Jul 8, 2014
Pros: Not much, really, although it was very handy for the location we wanted to be at (Hastings Arts Forum - 100 yards down the road).
Cons: Let's hope the rebuilding gets completed soon. Having had a couple of weeks in the US I can see why UK hotels get a bit of a bad rep.
Location: We were there for a particular art exhibition by a (late) friend, so didn't explore a great deal, apart from eating in the Old Town (pleasant).
OK, so we had a phone call saying the place was covered in scaffolding, but we didn't expect to find something that looked completely non-functioning. I'm always up for a bit of a laugh, but this was coming it strong, in my view. Happily, we weren't actually in the building that much, and having been out all of the afternoon and eveing after check-in managed to sleep OK. I know we don't talk about room rates, but I'm amazed we didn't get a discount on this one based on the condition of the place.

Friendly staff and great location

Posted Apr 13, 2014
We were relocated here after arriving at our booked hotel nearby to be told it was full. Parking isn't ideal as it's on the street and 2 hours maximum during working hours. Luckily we arrived in the evening so this wasn't a problem for us but I would imagine it would have been if we arrived during the day. The hotel manager was friendly and attentive and couldn't do enough for us. We were told breakfast would be modest as he wasn't expecting us but he would try to arrange something. The next morning we went down to find he'd been out already and got in some bacon and eggs for us. We then had as much tea, coffee, toast and cereal as we could manage brought to our table. Checkout was 10 but we were told if we wanted to stay a bit later that would be no problem. All in all a comfortable nights sleep and a good breakfast, especially considering we paid £120 for 6 of us. Great location right on the sea front for the summer.

Excellent location, had a room with a seaview. Very practical for an overnight stay. Breakfast was most enjoyable with plenty of food. Beds were comfy, room clean. Felt very welcome. Will visit again

Dreadful hotel for myself and my wife

Posted Jul 18, 2013
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The run-down hotel, our room, its narrow access to loft-like stairs, shabby bathroom. It's not worth the name.of hotel. Its a con.
Location: Hastings UK seafront.
Our booking for this "Grand" hotel" thru Expedia on the web was very very disappointing. We were given room no. 10 in the top floor its entrance thru a Fire Exit door --almost an attic room, climbing three narrow set of stairs and (pic attached). The bed was bumpy and bed linen was worn and smelly. Bathroom was a separate adjacent small converted room without bath and worn towels (not for 2 persons), the wash basin didn't have hot water too. Lone Cashier/Receptionist guy told us Breakfast will be served between 7 and 8 am and check out time 10 am. But we did not eat the breakfast anyway as it was too early on a Sunday. The name "Grand Hotel" very misleading! It was rather a B&B in a converted town house. But it's name and descriptions were deceptive. In the brochure its described as a boutique! The Wi-fi was never provided. Except on our arrival until next morning check-out I could not find anybody at the Reception. And there was no Telephone/intercom in our room! But we paid £110 for double occupancy--myself and my wife- plus £10 extra for a small sea-view window! Overall it was a dreadful experience and I won't recommend this to anyone. It was a con!!
